New Georgia Poll: Trump leads by only 2-points in poll taken after the GOP convention

Trump 46%, Clinton 44%, Johnson 5%, Stein 3%

(Atlanta)–In an exclusive poll for WSB-TV Channel 2 News Atlanta, findings by Landmark Communications and Rosetta Stone Communications reveal a very close race in Georgia for President. The Landmark /Rosetta Stone poll of 500 likely voters shows Trump holding a small lead over former Clinton 46-44%, while Libertarian Gary Johnson has support from 5% of voters and Green Party candidate Jill Stein has 3%.

“What’s driving the close election numbers in Georgia is the large and growing minority population,” said Mark Rountree, President of Landmark Communications, Inc. “Thirty seven percent of voters who will cast ballots this fall in Georgia are minorities, and Black voters, who are overwhelmingly Democratic, make up 32% of that 37%.”

Black voters currently are giving Clinton 88% of their votes, while 6% are supporting Trump. Among non-black minorities, 17% are saying they support Trump, while 54% are supporting Clinton.

“A lot of people haven’t grasped the real competitive nature of Georgia statewide elections,” said Rountree. “They look at the state of Georgia, which has been heavily controlled by Republicans for more than a decade, and dismiss the fact that changes have occurred and now 37% of voters are minorities. It’s created a false sense of security for many Republican political operatives.”

“Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are winning a combined eight percent of the vote,” said John Garst, President of Rosetta Stone Communications. “Most of their voters are White, which disproportionately hurts Donald Trump in Georgia and heavily contributes to this state’s extremely competitive polling numbers.”

Landmark Communications and Rosetta Stone Communications jointly conducted the poll on July 24th, 2016 of 500 likely Georgia voters. The poll was conducted with IVR telephone and digital data collection. The poll has a margin of error of 4.4%. Polls by Landmark/RosettaStone have been cited as being the most accurate in Georgia.

Looks like Trump's convention bounce was more like a thud.
