Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumWhy doesn't Hillary confront these slanders -- liar, corrupt, etc. -- head on?
My Facebook feed is full of people who believe what Bernie (and the GOP) have said about her, and point out that she never denies and disproves the allegations or calls BS on it all.
Only making Bernie vice president has a chance of changing their minds, and BErnie would have to campaign on "didn't mean it" as much as on the "revolution."
WHy did she let this go on so long? People fault her for that, too, if it's all not true.

(24,630 posts)all her time responding to lies she wouldn't have time to do anything positive. She is fighting on her turf, not on the illegitimate turf of the slanderers.

(481 posts)responding to the hate will yes legitimized them and also they are really have a deep seated hatred of her so it's like talking to a brick wall.

(15,102 posts)the 2 main ones are
1/ women. Women do not have the luxury of fighting back. When they do they are called many sexist names. She can't do this directly. You have heard of the "tone" argument. All kinds of comments about her voice. These types of comments are almost always used against women. Now combine that with her combating these lies, personally.
2/ No matter what Clinton does, someone will always criticize her. You say people are complaining that she isn't fighting back against the lies. If she does fight back people will complain that she is too bossy, takes things too personal and so on. If you hadn't noticed whatever she does, people will complain she isn't doing it right.
Just that fact that they would vote for her is Bernie is selected to be VP, shows to me that they don't believe the lies. They are just using them as an excuse to not vote for her.

(11,014 posts)She will have a phenomenal party all next week and the repuke smears will be a distant memory. Hillary all the way thereafter.

(2,326 posts)I think that would show she has the balls to lead the world.
It's a test no American woman has ever faced before. She can't duck it and I expect she will do very well with it.
(The answers many of you offered sound like they might apply to someone like me, a shy person, were I to improbably find mysef in her position. Better her than me.)

(16,104 posts)or you wouldn't have the impression she hasn't been responding for three decades!
Benghazi, email, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Russia, trade, Keystone - all asked and answered repeatedly.
I'm happy with the answers. The opposition will never be happy with those facts, so they will never shut up!

(2,326 posts)Passive silence is not best.
Your past means nothing to those who were busy elsewhere or not yet born.
When Hillary has their attention, at the convention and beyond, she needs to insist on her authentic self. Suffering 30 years in dignified silence is what our mothers had to do, and did.
No wonder they didn't think they could be president!

(2,542 posts)ETA: The presence of such nonsense in your Facebook feed is something you have the power to change. It also says a lot about the company you keep on Facebook, but hey, to each their own.

(2,326 posts)Who would you recommend I replace them with?
These people should not be hostile to her, although many will vote for her because they do not want Trump and remember Nader.
She can win them but not by ignoring the mud.

Hillary has to break the new ground here, not me.

...and we are going to vote for her.

(2,326 posts)I am going to vote for her, too. But I want a lot more people to vote for her as well.
And yes, she sat in the front row and asked questions after the bell back then.
She would want to do her very best.

(43,504 posts)Ok.
I had occasion to call the WH during Bill's term over a tech issue, and mentioned this. There was a vetting question only a Wellesley woman would know. I won't reveal it in case it is still in use.
Our party will put on a positive, unified show, unlike the shitstorm happening in Cleveland this week. It's the best of all possible responses.

(41 posts)Hillary looks bad every time she goes on the defense, as most women do. Women always get backlash when we try to defend ourselves and we go from being the victim, to asking for it. She needs to stay of the offense to appear strong rather than the defense where she comes off as a shrill, hysterical woman who is too sensitive. I wish to God she could just call everyone out on the BS they throw at her but every time she even tries a little it goes horrible for her. Women have a very tight rope to walk on in politics, I am so proud that she is doing as well as she is. I don't think any other woman could do better. We all need to voice our support and don't back down. We have a lot of material for why Hillary is the best candidate, we can be her defense.

(25,685 posts)The ones slinging the mud are stuck in the sludge and aren't going to change their minds or be convinced that HRC, the DNC or DWS are anything but crooks. The rest are RW trolls who just want to disrupt and cause divisiveness in the Democratic Party. We endured 8 years of this crap during the Clinton administration, have had to deal with all the racial and insulting remarks against President Obama and after all that we are stronger than ever.
