Relentless Hillary support might be changing a good friend's mind

I have a very good friend who is a Trump supporter. I mean a really staunch Trump supporter, and after conversation after conversation where she can't actually defend him since the beginning of his campaign, she finally admitted tonight that I'm far more informed than she is (which isn't saying much), she said she's starting to understand why I support Hillary. She said her biggest concern is terrorism and that "Trump talks a good talk" and makes her "feel safe" if he were to win the WH.

I explained that I understood her fears but that we all share the same fears about terrorism. Nobody wants terrorists coming over here, we all want to feel safe and know we're fighting terrorism. But that Trump is only going to disappoint her because he blurts out stupid, over-simplistic slogans and that she'll be so disappointed with him if he wins.

I didn't win her over but I had her ear for a change. Slow and steady might win the race with some people. It didn't hurt that I told her what Pence was like. She had never heard of him.

that Hillary is far more knowledgeable about foreign affairs and international terrorist groups than Donald Trump. Talking a tough game doesn't make anyone safe. No terrorist was ever put off by bravado. It takes an ability to build international coalitions and Clinton personally knows many foreign leaders from her time as Secretary of State.
Also some of Trump's rhetoric could well make matters worse.

trump's rhetoric actually enflames and recruits terrorists.. they'd love for him to win. Such as bin laden wanted bush2 to win.

A repub admin is the one who let 9/11 happen.. and going after sadam.. another stupid gop war created ISIS..

Terrorists would love to see a President Trump, which should tell people something...

As a hispanic woman who values her freedom and rights for everyone, he scares the crap out of me.

My republican sister really respects my opinion so for her my trusting & liking HRC means something. And my poor opinion of Trump means something. She's with HER in November.

It seems your friend has a high regard for you & your opinion! You & your opinion gives them extra info and the info gets weighted more.

It's good! very good. We need to keep being the same ones.

the media was trying to make it out that he didn't use his normal gut reaction. He a guy that his own campaign manager said "made an emotional decision".
I don't want an emotional decision maker, with the launch codes.

She just makes a face and shakes her head, like saying "that's not true". So I ask her why she dismisses what I say and she comes back with, "All I know is we need the wall". But at least the other day seemed to make a bit of a dent in her ignorance.

I don't understand wanting Trump, especially if you're worried about terrorism. He's exactly who terrorists (and Putin) want us to elect.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/25/donald-trumps-ghostwriter-tells-all

It contains the views of Tony Schwartz, the ghost writer who actually wrote "The Art of the Deal" which made Trump into the mega star he is today. To write the book Schwartz spent 18 months tagging along with Trump as he went through is business day, attending every meeting, listening in on every phone call. He even often visited with him in his Penthouse and traveled with him to his Florida retreat. Tony Schwartz makes a case that he know the real Donald Trump better than anyone outside of his immediate family.

The things he says about Trump are enough to make any rational Trump supporter seriously doubt whether he/she should vote for The Donald in November. Here is an excerpt from the opening paragraphs:

“I put lipstick on a pig,” he said. “I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is.” He went on, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.”

If he were writing “The Art of the Deal” today, Schwartz said, it would be a very different book with a very different title. Asked what he would call it, he answered, “The Sociopath.”

The rest of the long article explains in detail why Schwartz holds these opinions about Trump. Every person in the country should read this article - especially Trump's supporters. We should spread it as widely as possible.

Was gonna sit out the election but with 3 kids potentially of draft age she felt she has to vote against Trump.

Harsh possibility but still, it's a "what if" that you've gotta factor in.
