Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumBernie is trying to act as if he endorses Hillary as I type.
He seems to be doing his stump speech and saying Hillary agrees with him. I guess this is the big deal we have been waiting for.

(135,425 posts)For that pivot, he will get a good slot at the convention to speak.
If he actually campaigns/raises money, he will get a great slot.
Maybe he will get a cabinet post (Labor, perhaps) if he wants one.

(53,467 posts)He would likely do more harm than good in that position. There is a time to be confrontational and a time to work with others.

(3,248 posts)I honestly thought his ego would never allow him to walk away.
This clears the field for an all-out campaign against Trump now. I'll take it.

IMO he needed to articulate the details for his supporters. This was a very full-throated endorsement, IMO. It's a good day to be a Democrat.

(6,444 posts)He did do his stump speech for a while but was a way to include his base and show that HRC is with them.

(2,577 posts)I heard Charlie Pierce at the venue BEFORE Hillary and Bernie appeared, and Charlie said that he was hearing from lots of unhappy Bernie supporters who were grumbling about Bernie selling out. I suspect he said what he said to remind those folks that he was still on board with his ideas and get them psyched to unify going forward.
I was out running errands so haven't yet heard specifically what Bernie said, but I did get back in time to hear Hillary's classy statements about Jane Sanders. I liked that--a true reaching across and rising above.
Walk away
(9,494 posts)Most of his supporters have long since switched to Hillary, the remaining are not ever going to vote for anyone but a fringe candidate. It's a waste of time courting them.

or that any legitimate critique of Bernie Sanders would forever more be considered "fighting the primary".
Of course, it's actually The Latest Breaking News according to the NYT http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/13/opinion/campaign-stops/bernies-uninspiring-endorsement.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=opinion-c-col-left-region®ion=opinion-c-col-left-region&WT.nav=opinion-c-col-left-region

(42,862 posts)I mean ... for Space Mountain, you expect a long wait. But if you're talking about the Teacups or Small World, it's not worth the wait. All in all, I think it's about as good as we could expect, and it included the standard fare and optimism.
He's still shifting gears, so maybe he'll get better at it as the weeks go on and we get closer to the election.
