The House Sit-In for the Vote on Gun Sense has nothing to do with Sen. Sanders. (HRC GP)

Sen Sanders did not invent non-violent protest. Sen. Sanders is not a key figure in the fight for gun-sense!
Sen. Sanders did not invent crowds outside.

Rep. John Lewis wrote the book, he did not need Sen. Sanders. As a matter of fact Sen. Sanders has not been a key presence in the Filibuster or in the Sit-in this week. Also he did not ask crowds to support the HOUSE Sit-IN!

Here on Rep. John Lewis:

John Robert Lewis (born February 21, 1940) is an American politician and civil rights leader. He is the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district, serving since 1987, and is the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation. The district includes the northern three-quarters of Atlanta.

Lewis is the only living "Big Six" leader of the Civil Rights Movement, having been the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), playing a key role in the struggle to end legalized racial discrimination and segregation. A member of the Democratic Party, Lewis is a member of the Democratic leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives and has served as a Chief Deputy Whip since 1991 and Senior Chief Deputy Whip since 2003.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lewis_(Georgia_politician)

The son of an Alabama sharecropper, and now a sixth-term United States Congressman, John Lewis has led an extraordinary life, one that found him at the epicenter of the civil rights movement in the late '50s and '60s. As Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Lewis was present at all the major battlefields of the movement. Arrested more than forty times and severely beaten on several occasions, he was one of the youngest yet most courageous leaders. Written with charm, warmth, and honesty, Walking with the Wind offers rare insight into the movement and the personalities of all the civil rights leaders-what was happening behind the scenes, the infighting, struggles, and triumphs. Lewis takes us from the Nashville lunch counter sit-ins to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, where he led more than five hundred marchers on what became known as "Bloody Sunday." While there have been exceptional books on the movement, there has never been a front-line account by a man like John Lewis. A true American hero, his story is "destined to become a classic in civil rights literature." (Los Angeles Times)

He's the only politician some of them have ever really paid attention to and much of that attention is recent. I think that's one reason why they don't seem to understand the history behind Rep. Lewis - or much of the history of the Democratic Party's leadership in these areas, for that matter.

Thank our "left wing" media for producing mostly clickbait and not actual news or information. Also thank our schools for not teaching any kind of substantive political history.

Hillary will be solely blamed for every perceived "mistake", or "bad" action. But Sanders will be given credit for every one of her accomplishments. You can mark my words. "Bernie FORCED her to the left! Hillary would never have done X, Y, and Z if not for BERNIE!"

but I think you're right.

What KILLS me is this "pushing to the left" bullshit. She's ALWAYS been to the left. How many of us remember "the powers that be" saying that they just wished she'd shut up and behave as FLOTUS? I sure as hell do.

I'm so very happy to see her campaigning the way she is, and SHOWING a bit more of HERSELF.

I saw that just the other day right here on DU in GDP. Hillary had no business sticking her nose into policy because she was not elected; she needed to just sit down and shut up.

He has stayed so far away from this issue it would be political suicide for anyone running for a Senate seat in a Blue State! Except of course a state that has so many "rural gun owners"

25. YEAR 2013: Congressman John Lewis adds arrest no. 45 - after Peaceful SIT-IN Capitol

2013

U.S. Rep. john Lewis, D-Atlanta, and seven other Democratic congressman were arrested today outside the Capitol in Washington, D.C., during an immigration protest.

According to Lewis' office, the civil rights icon was arrested at approximately 4:15 p.m. Buzzfeed reports that Lewis and fellow Congressmen Joe Crowley, Raul Grijalva, Luis Gutierrez, Jan Schakowsky, Keith Ellison, Al Green, Charlie Rangel joined more than 100 activists and started a "peaceful sit-in blocking a street in the front of the Capitol." The protest was part of the Camino Americano Rally for Immigrant Dignity and Respect, an effort to restart immigration reform in Congress.

Lewis has been placed in handcuffs "at least" 45 times, his spokeswoman says. He was arrested more than 40 times during the Civil Rights Movement. Since serving in Congress, he's been arrested five times.

"He was arrested twice at the South African embassy protesting apartheid, twice at the Embassy of the Sudan protesting genocide in Darfur and today he was arrested to demand dignity and respect for immigrants," his office said.
