Instead of banning them as trolls, this site offers up a special protected group for them, "Gun Control/RKBA" aka the "Gungeon" (not to be confused with the Gun Control Activism group which is for DUers who actually advocate for progressive gun control). No progressive should be a RKBA ("Right to Keep and Bear Arms&quot advocate, since that is a "right" invented by Scalia in the Heller decision.


And I agree, you don't need an assault weapon to defend your home. In fact, your home is more dangerous with one in it.

6. I am a 70+ woman who

has traveled widely throughout the world, on occasion by myself, and who has no fear of living or being alone.

I have never - ever - felt the need to have a gun of any kind for protection and I have lived in both urban and rural areas. Unless I were prepared to practice shooting it at a target range on a regular basis, a gun would certainly be of no practical use to me, and would likely pose more of a danger in the sense that any determined individual would likely wrest it away from me and use it against me. Besides, one must keep a gun locked up so that children and others cannot get to it. By the time you unlock it to confront a home invader, it's likely too late. It's more a nuisance than anything else.

At one time, I did carry pepper spray after one instance where I was subjected to a half-hearted but still traumatizing assault. But that lasted only for a couple years, especially after I realized that taking self-defense classes, paying very careful attention to my surroundings, and carrying my keys clenched between my fingers in my fist would give me as much of an advantage as pepper spray would. Besides, none of the others were illegal and I can always carry keys through airline security.

Those who feel insecure in their homes are better off getting a dog (even a cat - I once had a Manx cat who could face down Dobermans and German shepherds - she was very protective of her turf) and keeping a can of pepper (yes, the spice) in their nightstand.

In the final analysis, however, individuals know their own needs, fears, and strengths. I have no problem at all with responsible gun owners. In fact, I have several in my own family. But not one owns - or feels the need to own - an assault rifle. Their reaction to nutcases who feel the need to own them is that assault rifles are for wusses who can't shoot for sh**, so they hedge their bets by getting guns that will spray bullets everywhere.

A person that owns or wants to own a military style assault weapon is planning on killing a large number of people sometime IMO. That's what the weapon is designed to do.

They were not made for deer hunting or any other kind of animal hunting. They are designed and made for the hunting and killing of large amounts of human beings.

I haven't owned a gun for years, because when my children were small, I had no SAFE place to store them. When I did have guns, they were rifles.

Assault weapons do not belong in the hands of civilians, EVER. I have people in my family that are currently law enforcement, some are retired. Many veterans as well. You know what? NONE of them own this kind of weapon. They've all said the same thing we've all said, which is that the purpose of this kind of weapon is to kill people.

Something ELSE which really gets to me with this, is the lack of respect for firearms in general that I see from people we'd call "gun nuts". I was raised to have a healthy respect for them, BECAUSE of the kind of damage they cause when used against a target. In my case, it was learning how to hunt. Why is this important? IF, when hunting, you want to use all parts of the animal, INCLUDING the pelt, you have to mindful of the caliber you're using, the size of the game, and what kind of ammunition you're going to use.

I cannot for the LIFE of me understand this attitude of what I see that guns are big boy toys. I don't get it, nor do I WANT to.

I don't like blanket anti-gun statements. Most people who are defensive in gun debates are that way because the conversation usually starts out with someone just saying guns are bad, instead of talking about background checks or something reasonable like that. Common sense gun regulation is good. Most gun owners are ok with that issue. But the hysterical "guns are bad" approach is what starts arguments.
