Hillary Clinton

I am getting frustrated with the nonstop drumbeat of "don't gloat! The Bernie supporters are hurting!"
Why am I frustrated? The Bernie supporters have been misled and misinformed for months now. Hillary had the nomination after New York. If the situation had been reversed, M$M would have begun screaming for her to bow out and recognize that the nomination had been won by another. But the winner was Hillary ... so instead we heard that Bernie's "path to the nomination was very narrow" or the "math was difficult." No, the math was impossible. Bernie needed to win every state after NY by such a large margin it just wasn't happening. But Bernie supporters were told otherwise.
Now I hear over and over "voter fraud," "rigged primaries," and other such craziness. We DO have to worry about disenfranchising voters and the Republican efforts to suppress the vote in November, but the mindset that every time YOUR candidate loses it's a fraud and every time he wins it's a victory just doesn't cut it in reality.
In 2008, I supported Obama. NO ONE told me to be kind to all the people who had worked so hard for Hillary. Neither she nor her supporters got time to regroup. I could celebrate until the cows came home without being chided.
I also read that Obama should not endorse Hillary yet--things aren't over. Say what?
If I were a Bernie supporter and all this nonsense was being poured into my head regularly, I'd have trouble grasping reality, too. BUT the reality is that Hillary is the nominee, and our job NOW is to get it together and get her elected and work on all the races down ticket. We can't afford the Donald in the White House, and we need to return Paul and Mitch to the back benches where they belong.

(30,150 posts)Tuesday is D day. He either gets 300 delegates or he says, "Congratulations, Hillary. You won. Thanks for such a great campaign and now we can get to work and do the things we talked about." Then he'll have my respect.
If he goes to the convention and whines, I'll let his buddies whip up the crackers and cheese. Don't look for me join his little pity party. Don't like losing to a woman? Don't run against one.

(14,449 posts)I'd imagine he'll suspend Wednesday but the way he's been treated, I would not blame him for staying to the convention. Nobody has been treated more disrespectful then sanders in the history of primary elections.

(22,850 posts)I read postings from the Latest Threads page so I don't pay attention to the Group a posting is from. Recently, a poster referred to the president as "Barack" and I wrote, "that's President Obama to you." The Bernie Sanders Group Host blocked me for "attacking" a member in a "safe haven." My emails to the Host were polite and explanatory but she'd have none of it and instead projected some incorrect and angry attitude onto me. Ah, well.
I've been a member of DU since 2006, donated money when I could and a lifelong Democrat. My post count is low because I like to read and when I see the angry arguments, I move on because they're mostly pointless and without resolution. When raising my son I learned an important lesson: it takes two to argue.
Anyway, I now feel like I have a battle scar from the internal DU wars! The new rules will end some of these internecine fights.
Meanwhile, I'll vote a straight Democratic ticket in November.

(4,187 posts)I followed a link to a post, without realizing the post was in the Bernie forum. It was a really offensive post -- so sexist that other Bernie supporters eventually convinced the poster to delete it. But I was blocked for criticizing it.
Things are already getting better. Many of the Hillary supporters who have been quiet have been coming out, or perhaps even coming back after staying away for a long time, so that the place feels much less hostile to Hillary supporters than it was previously.

(2,897 posts)Just because Sanders isn't allowed to break the rules, change the rules, harass state party chairs, steal voter data, fake endorsements, appropriate the Civil Rights movement, etc... doesn't mean he has been treated disrespectfully. Hell, he has been handled with kid gloves throughout the entire process, especially for someone who has decided to run a dangerously negative campaign 2 months after it became mathematically improbable for him to win.

(2,897 posts)They expect to be coddled to the end of it as well.
The fact that they even think that this is a close race is a sign of the coddling that they've needed. His entire campaign has been a certificate of participation. He lost by 6+ million votes and over 350+ delegates. That's a good old fashion landslide and the fact that he feels entitled to argue for concessions is disturbing.
I'm going to celebrate that Hillary won and Bernie lost and I'm not going to sugarcoat my glee or coddle anyone else's children because they just learned the rules of the game and realized that they lost 2 months ago.
Not after the attacks on John Lewis and Dolores Huerta. Not after the drudging up of various right wing hit pieces. Not after having to watch and listen to Nina Turner, Susan Sarandon, Shailene Woodley, and Ben Jealous argue with a straight face that because Bernie gets more white college kids then the votes of African American democrats like myself should be ignored because of some polls 6 months out. Not after the legitimization of Cornell West after his disparaging remarks against Barack Obama. Not after the absolute mess that was NVDem's convention. And especially not after, a process that has empowered people of color and women all over the country and resulted in the first female major party nominee has been accused of being rigged because Bernie didn't win certain states.

(31,849 posts)This primary has been a sociological study's treasure trove. I wonder if some sociologist will write a piece on this primary vis a vis "certificates of participation"?
Not to be ageist or anything; but, what generation grew up with "certificates of participation" and what generation is Bernie all in?
As I have written before, I came of age in an era where every spring, we had to try out for little league baseball. If, at the end of try outs, we got "drafted", we made the team ... if not, we spent the summer working on our game, so that next year, we'd get "drafted".
And, even if we made the team, if we were good enough, we would get to play in the games ... if not, we spent the summer working on our game (on the team), so that next year, we'd get to play.
And, at the end of the season, there were 4 trophies awarded, a Championship trophy (for everyone on the Championship team), a MVP trophy (one for each non-championship team), a Most improved Player trophy (one for each non-championship team), and a Sportsmanship trophy (one for each non-championship team). There were no Participation trophies ... and, to be honest, NO ONE wanted to get the Most Improved or Sportsmanship trophies, because that meant you weren't a champion.
There was no whining ... just hard work over the summer for next year ... or not!
Mr Maru
(216 posts)could probably fill a trunk with all the trophies, awards, medals and ribbons they got just for showing up. Everybody gets to be on the team and everybody gets a "winners" trophy.

The constant harrassment, alert stalking, crapping all over any positive post about Hillary, threatening violence, disrespecting liberal icons such as John Lewis, Delores Huerta, President Obama, etc. The latest is Elizabeth Warren. And whining about "voter fraud" when they couldn't be bothered to research election rules for their states. Their threats to "stay home" or vote Green Party, or even vote for Trump(!) tells me all I need to know about them.
Respect my ass. Damn right, I'll celebrate our victory. If they don't like it they can go to that jackass site.

(9,494 posts)I have had to do it many times. I have not always liked our candidate, and I have said so, but I have never been so delicate or deluded that I couldn't stand to hear the truth.
We did them no favor letting them think they were winning. I get why Hillary was so easy on Bernie even while he was pushing GOP talking points and tin foil hat crap, but it seems to have resulted in a small but hardcore group of overly sensitive..............well, you fill in the blank.
I don't think that the campaign needs them but this site seems to.
