Sanders: 'The Democratic National Convention will be a contested convention'

He's truly snapped his tether.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/04/politics/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-convention/index.html

Washington (CNN) — Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on Saturday vowed to continue his fight for the Democratic nomination beyond the primary season, telling reporters at a news conference in Los Angeles that he plans to go after Hillary Clinton's superdelegates.

Clinton currently has 2,313 total delegates -- 1,769 of which are pledged and 544 of which are superdelegates -- and she is expected to cross the 2,383-delgate threshold in the next few days to clinch the nomination. But Sanders, who has 1,501 pledged delegates and only 46 superdelegates, says he can still woo enough of her superdelegates between now and the Democratic convention in July to swing the nomination his way.

It's a tall order.

Pledged delegates emerge from primaries and caucuses, while superdelegates are party leaders -- elected officials and former ones who have individually committed to a candidate. It would be unprecedented for the number of superdelegates Sanders needs to switch allegiances, and, like Clinton this year, then-Sen. Barack Obama entered the 2008 convention without a majority of pledged delegates.

Sanders is making this pledge to keep his fight alive in the closing days of the California primary campaign, sending a signal to his supporters that the race isn't finished.

"The media is in error when they lump superdelegates with pledged delegates. Pledged delegates are real," Sanders said. "Hillary Clinton will not have the requisite number of pledged delegates to win the Democratic nomination at the end of the nominating process on June 14. Won't happen. She will be dependent on superdelegates."

He vowed, "The Democratic National Convention will be a contested convention."

Please explain to me WHY all the superdelegates will jump to Bernie. So all the elected officials, especially those in states where Hillary actually WON the primaries, will say, Hey, no problem, I'm going to jump over to the old guy with the three-point stump speech.

He is believing his own PR, which is never a good thing.

He seems to think he has some kind of power that he doesn't actually have. Especially since he is losing more every single day.

He's headed for irrelevance and his supporters are going to whittle down to a bunch of bullying thugs on the streets of Philly and a lot of pitiful bloggers on a Sanders' island at Reddit.

This is how Sanders wants to go out. He has become a shining beacon of progressive entitlement. He feels entitled to the presidency, not because he earn it, but because he decided a year ago that he wanted. When people of color and women decided that Sanders was not nearly as ready or qualified to be president or the democratic nominee as Hillary Clinton, Sanders and his surrogates decided to cast doubts on the process, dismiss their votes (old south and "we are the future" etc.), and ultimately, try to steal their votes by way of super delegates. I am beyond sick of this man and I hope the President speaks on behalf of Hillary Clinton, a woman so qualified for the job that it is frankly insulting that we even lump her in with Senator B. Speeches, when she rightfully becomes the presumptive nominee on June 7th, 2016 at 8:10pm. It is time to return to reality and stop peddling this fantasy that Donald Trump doesn't exist or that Bernie Sanders deserves a place on the ballot instead of or even alongside Hillary Clinton.

Does not make it so. She has more votes, moe pledged delegates and more supers committed to her. If he thinks supers will overturn the will of the majority of the voters, he's in Trump territory. It will not happen He's drunk his own Kool aid, and he's disgracing himself day by day.

I want Bernie to lose PR today, to have a "lost-every-contest" kind of day on Tuesday, and to lose DC in a week. If Bernie wins a state he's going to claim "the people" want him to stay in the race. If he loses everything between now and the convention, that may tell his handlers the "revolution" isn't working.

the FIRST ballot had to fail to give a candidate enough delegates to secure the nomination? So unless those SDs that have said they would support Hillary don't vote for her on the first ballot, how can it then be contested? If she does get the 2,383 on the first ballot, is it not game, set, match?

The word Bernie is actually trying to use is BROKERED. Here's what happens.

For the past five months the states have been holding primaries and caucuses. At each one, the candidates earn delegates through their vote totals - these are the "pledged" delegates because they take a pledge to support the candidate they were assigned to. When the National Convention comes around, these delegates come together and cast a vote. At the same time, the superdelegates cast votes for whoever they like best. The pledged-delegate total and superdelegate total are added together...and if one candidate receives at least 2,383 delegates' votes, that candidate has won the convention and faces Donald Trump in November.

If no candidate receives 2,383 votes, all the pledges are nullified and all the delegates are "supered" - any of them can vote for whoever they want. This is the condition Bernie yearns for, and if it happens it's thoroughly possible Trump would face Bernie in November.

Now for Bernie's problem: That scenario can only happen if there are more than two candidates left in the running come the convention. With a multitude of candidates each carrying delegates, it's very conceivable the vote will split in ways that present no candidate with enough votes to take the convention. With two candidates, ONE of them has to gain the majority - and 2,383 is exactly 50 percent plus one. Right now, Bernie is 290 pledged delegates and 500 supers down to Hillary. Kick in the forty supers who have already expressed their desire to support Hillary but have been asked to withhold their endorsement until after Tuesday (because Hillary wants pledged delegates to push her over the top) and the ass-kicking Sanders is about to take in two days...the only prayer he has is faithless pledged Hillary delegates because he isn't going to flip 500 superdelegates.

Bernie seems to not know a lot of things, like telling his minions they have to register as Democrats if they want to vote for him in closed primaries, or that you can't attempt to steal states you lost if you want to be taken seriously, or you can't legally spend $600,000 of your donors' money on a fun jaunt to Europe. So Bernie can be expected to not know anything about campaigning for president.

wrong term. To me, a threat of a CONTESTED convention is much more inflammatory than brokered. It riles folks up. Perhaps that's what he wants? Perhaps his term is generating more of his base to give dollars and hit the streets drumming up support? More of a "miracle" and a long shot which engages his supporters? Bernie or bust? To me it just furthers the distance between the camps as he's been saying how things have been rigged against him.
