DFA Endorses 6 New Candidates in "Dean Dozen" Campaign, Plans Grassroots and Financial Support for Endorsees.
Burlington, VT Today, Democracy for America (DFA) unveiled six new candidates who will receive a combined $125,000 in donations and grassroots support leading up to the election. The six candidates are Tammy Baldwin (WI-Sen), Mazie Hirono (HI-Sen), Elizabeth Warren (MA-Sen), Annie Kuster (NH-02), Raul Ruiz (CA-36), and Manan Trivedi (PA-06). The six candidates now have the official endorsements of Gov. Howard Dean and DFA. They join six other candidates as part of DFA's "Dean Dozen," an exclusive group of progressive endorsements that will be DFAs main focus from now until Election Day.
"These races matter, said Jim Dean, Chair of DFA. After some serious consideration on our end and a firm commitment and a willingness to win from these twelve campaigns, I know we are in a position to hand back the gavel to Nancy Pelosi. In the Senate, these four candidates are some of the best progressives Ive ever seen. We can take back Congress this November.
Dean continued, Thats not to say its going to be easy weve got our work cut out for us. But these candidates have a real chance to win and not only win but also win on progressive principles. Each of these candidates are in the fight of their lives they are fighting to strengthen our country, put Americans back to work, create more jobs, and to demand that Republicans like Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney keep their hands off Medicare and Social Security.
For each candidate who receives the title of Dean Dozen, DFA commits to:
A cross-endorsement from Democracy for America Founder, Governor Howard Dean,
A commitment to raise an additional $20,000 in small donations from DFAs national membership,
A contribution of $5,000 in financial and in-kind support from Democracy for Americas PAC over the course of the campaign,
On-the-Ground organizing support from DFAs regional field organizers, and
The campaign will receive priority in the Call-Out-the-Vote tool, where DFA members make tens of thousands of calls to voters in a given day.
The first six endorsements for the "Dean Dozen" were made on August 8th: Martin Heinrich (NM-Sen), Kathy Boockvar (PA-08), Jose Hernandez (CA-10), Joe Miklosi (CO-06), Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), and Shelli Yoder (IN-09).
DFAs political staff extensively vetted each campaign in an effort to gain a better understanding and insight to whether each candidate being considered has what it takes to win in November. Polling conducted in these competitive districts from August 7-8th indicated that an overwhelming majority of voters 3-to-1 will not vote for a candidate who supports turning Medicare into a voucher program. Since unveiling the first 6 Dean Dozen earlier this month, Democracy for America has raised over $160,000 dollars for the candidates.
Since 2004, DFA has worked to identify 12 strong progressive candidates who have what it takes to win and are committed to moving the progressive agenda forward, said Governor Howard Dean. The focus on candidates in these twelve races sends a clear signal that it is time to end the extreme right-wing stronghold that has blocked the progressive agenda at every turn.
