President Trump, who is refusing to cooperate with more than 20 congressional investigations, instructed current and former aides Wednesday to ignore a House committees request for documents in the latest act of defiance that has prompted Democrats to declare the nation is facing a constitutional crisis.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told Democrats in a closed-door caucus meeting Wednesday morning to stick to their policy agenda ahead of the 2020 election rather than initiate impeachment proceedings. And not a single lawmaker challenged her.
The events underscored that Pelosi has managed to hold the line on her no-impeachment stance despite Trumps ongoing resistance and relentless liberal pressure for Democrats to try to oust the Republican president. Most notably, she has quelled an internal clamor and kept even the most vocal impeachment proponents in check along with committee chairs as Democrats increasingly look to the courts to settle the fight between Congress and the chief executive.
In the nearly hour-long, closed-door session heavily focused on health care, Pelosi was the only one to bring up impeachment, acknowledging that some Democrats are complaining.

(3,433 posts)The president is lying to get us into a war. He has colluded with Russia, obstructed justice and the Attorney General is acting as his personal lawyer.
I simply do not feel that I can continue to read the news and participate in political discussions even as infrequent as they may be.
I am on here numerous times during the day mostly reading and posting when I feel the need. I just don't feel as though I can anymore. I'm just too unhappy and it's not good for me
We are rocketing toward war with an incompetent psychopath leading our armed forces. The Republicans in the Senate do not give a flying f***. The house is afraid of impeachment because of politics. I once stated that time needed to be considered in order for the house to build its case. This is past. At this point there is oath of office and duty. Our elected congressman and women have taken an oath to hold the executive branch in check. I cannot bear to continue to read news articles where Trump has thumbed his nose at the rule of law while the Democrats in the house continue to fear engaging in constitutional action which is required.
I'm sorry if this offends some and it is taken as attacking Democrats. I will always vote for a Democrat at the polls but I can't support this inaction. I can't continue to read news articles which highlight the lawlessness and tyrannical actions of our president. So I'm going to check out and not read anyting it's just not worth it. I have young child who deserves a happy dad. I would rather she have an ignorant happy father than a miserable one.

Ultimately, we will triumph - never doubt it.

(16,502 posts)Never existed. No one who is less watchful than DUers would have an damn idea that they passed it at all. Voters aren't going to vote because they would have liked the laws that never passed. They will be de-motivated by the failure to hold Captain Queeg accountable though. It looks like weakness. And cowardice. And it could help get the madman re-elected.
