Barack Obama
Related: About this forumI just want to say something good about My President!
Many will and are saying some nasty things about President Obama.
But this is the President I came to face with in Joplin, MO. when my world was falling apart.
He was and is confidant.
Yet he will cry with you and hold you.
He gave me courage! He IS MY President!

thank you so much for reminding us of what a comfort it can be to have such a leader.

You have the American Spirit. You have suffered and you have won.
Still hard, I know, but Lady, you give us courage.

(15,518 posts)I really do not like his chained CPI scheme even if he knows it will not pass. Right now I can separate the two. I have sent two emails and made one phone call expressing my disapproval to the White House something I have never done on any issue. I am a life long third generation Democrat and I consider this disaster "chained CPI" as potentially devastating if enacted as the Vietnam War was for Lyndon Johnson and Democrats.
So hopefully that will not happen. Also I will never draw Social Security.

(978 posts)Obama has a way forecasting events so I trust his decisions.
1) When he was Senator he introduced legislation to prevent mortgage fraud. At the time no one considered or was concerned about the housing loan market going bust and being a major cause for the economy to tank. He knew back then the issue needed to be addressed.
2) The Iraq War. He voted against it. We knew what happened next.
3) Healthcare. When most new presidents would have concentrated on the sinking economy when they started office, what did Obama go after? Healthcare. WTF? Healthcare? We were shedding thousands of jobs and were still embroiled in two wars and his priority was Healthcare? But he knew that healthcare was a big drain on the economy and needed to be addressed.
4) Social Security. Again. It doesn't make sense but years from now it probably will.
I call it long-term strategies that mere mortals can't comprehend. He knows something we don't. I imagine I'll get flamed for this by putting him up as some sort of God. But whatever.

(14,168 posts)I can say their is something there. That man, that leader calmed down so many that were ready to loose it. Just his presence...
You have to be around him in a tense situation to know what I am talking about.

(978 posts)I think what you saw was that he is real and not a fake. He was a community activist. He knows. He's not some rich guy with a pedigree.

(14,168 posts)I was try to help with clean up. I found some boards wit a lot of blood on them. It all hit at once. The group I was with had me go take a break. He was coming down with the group you see in the first pick. He saw I was crying. He pointed at me "Hey Miss? Are you OK? What do you need?". I was able to see his eyes. He meant it.
I had seen so many that came in for photo opts and they would ask the same thing, but they didn't have any real feelings in their eyes. But he did. He told some aid to get me some water and to check about some food. He wanted to help.
After that simple exchange, he went on the rest of the tour. But I know I will never forget how he helped my spirit.

I just want people to remember who we voted for and how much he needs us to back him.
He is a great man, but he needs us to make things right.

(56,580 posts)By definition, not all of us can do that. Those of us that have rarely come away indifferent. I spent an hour with him last July. I wouldn't want his job, but I sure as hell respect all the balls he has to juggle at once, and his willingness to take on the attempt.
Being president is such a thankless job. Despite all of the money I'd get paid for it, I doubt I could last even one month without losing my sanity, considering all the racism, the misinformation, and conspiracy theories from RW media and the obstruction coming from elected Republicans.
I'm much happier being an armchair president.

But that is the area where I was working. Many of us found that we had to get out and do something. We joined the clean up crews. But there were times when things got to much. The outside Volunteers were told to watch for any signs of that. Sam, the team leader, saw I was starting to loose it and had me take a break. That is how I got to see the President. I didn't even know that he was going to be the area, or that it was an area he was going to go through.
We all thought he would manly be around the St. John's area since it was the area where at the journalist were. That was where all the other Political types were doing there thing. But Obama want to see the neighborhood.
