Help! Somebody please explain to me

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by grantcart (a host of the Barack Obama group).

... what might be going on with President Obama? On the news this morning they're saying that his proposed budget still contains a provision to reduce the SS CPI. Even if he does say only in exchange for Repuke's voting tax increases for the rich, which I suspect he knows they'll never agree to do, it still makes me nervous. I feel somewhat as if the poor ("Isaac&quot are being offered on the altar by Father Abraham.

The CPI has needed INCREASING for years. Making the rich pay a little more won't put one bite of food in the mouth of hungry elders who for reasons perhaps completely beyond their control might have nothing left but those SS checks to live on. The way it's been going already, some of them can't even afford cat food any longer. I can understand a certain amount of means testing for SS or even higher payroll taxes for top earners, but not an across the board lowered CPI.

When this first came up, I read one opinion that a CPI change might even be an increase, but now clearly it won't. Is this perhaps an open tactic so President Obama can say later that it proves the GOP won't vote any tax increase on the rich, thus justifying something else he has to do as a result? He knows better than I that the majority of Democratic legislators will never agree to it.

So this Yellow Dog has to ask, because I really and truly want to understand: What in the world's going on?

He thinks that compromise is giving the other side what they want to get just a little of he wants. Instead, he should be demanding that they take we he offers and be happy with it, just like they do to him.

Think about who's won in these "compromises" since he's been President. It hasn't been us or the President (or maybe he has).
