20-Year-Old Obama Video

(Newser) – Want to revisit the Barack Obama you once knew and loved... oh, 20 years ago? Yes, it's a ways back, but it's still fascinating to see the 29-year-old Harvard Law Review editor giving a short spiel on TBS. He had longer hair and,...

My first sight of Obama was this in 2007. I probably posted it in the BOG a long time ago:

The figures that Obama is citing in the video come from that link's button called Trade-offs. Think of the creative capacity of mankind that is being held back with war. I believe Obama has. This is why he got the Nobel Peace Prize. I feel it dishonest to call him a warmonger and someone who wants to kill people all over the world for money and power.

He is leader of the most militarized nation in history, with a global impact. The USA is not Switzerland. It is what it is but the sequestration threat is a back door to changing America from a constant wartime basis to something else. I am not happy about the wars that we have been in. But it's not going to be easy to turn this around.

Last month, 60 MILLION Americans voted for a man who promised to take us to war with Iran, which everyone has said would lead to a conflict that would rival WW2 or worse. So this is not as easy as waving a wand and making it all go away. It's no easy thing to put this in reverse, but we will.

In 2007 I was for other candidates better known for their anti-war stances, but turned off by Hillary in the primary debates. But I was impressed by a new man on the stage who was thoughtful and respectful to everyone, despite their opinions. His name was Barack Obama.

I sought to learn all I could about him. As I watched Obama through the campaign, all through videos, I realized he was speaking to what I believed. I was eager to vote for him in 2008. I don't believe he's changed, despite the way he's been portrayed.

When I went to check him out, despite his estimate on getting out of Iraq, I found this link. I believe that Obama has not forgotten, nor been caught up in ego games as other candidates were. I saw a statesman, a quiet Lincolnesque leader.

Very conscious of those around him, but willing to work with them out of a belief in equality. Like ...Namaste represents the belief... there is a Divine spark within each of us... an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another..

If we believed this, how much of the hatred and conflict could be eliminated. That is equality. It is the soul that we all share.

Some see lack of compromise as strength or manliness, but that view of being strong is from movies or Reagan and Bush. Those were faux men, IMHO. A real man is humble, open and able to handle a lot. of opinions.

I remember what must have been near the end, not shown here. When Michelle and Barack stood o the podium. And the newsmen were saying how cold it was outside. Thanks, sheshe!

Being POTUS has to be the toughest job there is.

I heard him in Los Angeles -- carpooled down there with a bunch of Dem friends who are active leaders here in Santa Barbara. I was very impressed -- he told the American Story very close to the way I've always told it to myself, if you know what I mean. I think I read his book after that and it blew me away.

I'm sorry to say that at the time I thought he was jumping in too soon, and initially I was rooting for someone else who looked more seasoned. California's primaries are really late -- a lot of people get knocked off the ticket before we get a chance to vote, including my original pick. Finally, for me it came down to Hillary and Obama, and I was really torn. Then she was out -- and I was thrilled to cast my vote in the primary election for Barack Obama.

I wish very much that I would have a chance to hear him in person again.

teach us about Black History when he went on to become so much a part of our history, too!

Charles Hamilton Houston.. (September 3, 1895 – April 22, 1950) died way too young..

Going on to become known as "The Man Who Killed Jim Crow."[3] he played a role in nearly every civil rights case before the Supreme Court between 1930 and Brown v. Board of Education (1954). Houston's plan to attack and defeat Jim Crow segregation by demonstrating the inequality in the "separate but equal" doctrine from the Supreme Court's Plessy v. Ferguson decision as it pertained to public education in the United States was the masterstroke that brought about the landmark Brown decision.
