Barack Obama

I think it is time we get some admissions from people.
Many people here dislike President Obama and believe, in spite of overwhelming factual evidence to the contrary in that he is and has been a remarkably successful president, he has been a failure.
Here is what is interesting about the statistics of this that i can gather, almost none of these people so critical of Obama support Hillary.
But worse is most of them wont come right out and say it, you know this by how few respond to anytime he does something great and historical, like KOOBAH as it is pronounced. Cuba.
I am proud of our President, most of the human family is proud of him.

(708 posts)Frankly I think Bernie Sanders really pays respect to President Obama's foreign policy.

(16,104 posts)Who else hates every successful Democrat of the last three decades?
Then they are head-over-heels for a DINO!
I'm waiting for someone to jump out and yell, "Smile - you're on candid camera!"
Or, "You just got punked!"
Or, "Catfished again!"
In other words, "You can fool some of the people..."

Jumped the shark, they have.

(12,233 posts)obstruction and the media corporate spin against the White House, is pretty remarkable. Could things have gone better for him, I think so, I don't think he did any good by coming into the White House and try to work "bi-partisanship" with Reoublicans... He gave away the bank and his huge victory given to him by the country wanting him to go left.
Remember when he spoke about making changes to NAFTA in 2008? The fact that he's pushing that horrific TPP is pretty disgusting! And he stood against a war with Iraq, but he's sending troops back now to deal with ISIS... Much of that is due to Bush in the first place, but our dealings within the ME, has left our country as one of ISIS' most powerful recruiting tools in the area. Our country's name mention in that region of the world is akin to our views or Cold War USSR/ communism. It's powerful propaganda for the extremists; and with our invasions into the ME and our drones taking out innocent people's for years, it's not hard for the regular folks living in these countries of strife to feel hospitable or thankful for our intrusions. Plus that whole Libyian intrusion of regime change only helped flame the fire for ISIS.
And education policy is atrocious as it was with No Child Left Behind. More testing, ties to corporations, and ties to testing. Higher education becoming more and more unaffordable by anyone without parents who have a substantial income... It's continuing to dumb down society to accept people like Trump as a Presidential option... Those involved directly with the system, teachers and parents and kids, are ignored in regards to the issue of education, teaching to a test, etc are ignored on both sides

(31,443 posts)a few stale talking points, who have absolutely no interest in governance. I understand that activism has it's benefits, but when people start to make their living from it, the word ceases to have any real meaning.
There was absolutely nothing, I repeat....NOTHING wrong with this president's desire to reach across the aisle to get things done. The fact that people like you, on the left & the right, have hijacked the debate in this country leaves me wondering...why even bother? It's either your way, or no way at all, and that's not American. Compromise has been turned into a dirty word by the denizens of leftwing & rightwing radio, who have a vested interest in this country never coming together to do the business of the people. Nothing is ever, nor will it ever, be good enough.
I don't often see crap like yours posted in the Barack Obama Group (a safe haven), maybe you arrived here by mistake, but I wish you would take those well worn talking points back to the main forums, and leave the subscribers of the BOG to celebrate the successes of a POTUS that we respect and admire, tremendously.

(12,233 posts)I look at the big picture related to the world and peoples real lives. And if you don't think the President didn't win 2008 and 2012 without a left spin that drove the people to the poles, your crazy. And in fact, he's been pushing in that direction his second term much more forcefully...
47% of America cannot pay out an emergency bill of $400.00. Many still can't afford to become sick even with insurance and many many more children are being priced out of being able to compete with the jobs of the future in the global market due to costs... Countries we compete with provide these items as a part of their society or for minimal fees that don't break their citizens backs. Sorry, but people were completely unhappy with Republicans. They and their policies broke the economy... There was no real reason to compromise if he went to the people and asked them off of a huge historic winning high, to contact congress. Shoot, he may have even been able to force a Medicare for all program into play (80% approval by America-- even Trump has voiced support for this in the past)...
I'm not disgusting for having an opinion on a couple of places where I disagree with his policies.... And I'm certainly NOT a paid progressive whined. I work 60hrs a week, raise 2 kids, and still try to involve myself as much as I can in my community and in making it better for me, my kids, and everyone's future. And yes, I'm paid too damn little for my work time, so I struggle,
And there are many times I wouldn't have that extra $400.00 either.

(31,443 posts)need one? Being AA myself, I can see through to the challenges that must be faced by the first black anything, let alone President of these United States.
Like I said, progressivism has become a joke in itself. Just merely calling Congress, because someone asked you to, isn't activism. As an adult, your own initiative should have made you pick up that phone. And, Medicare For All was NEVER going to happen, no matter how many calls you & Donald Trump made.
Reaching out to adversaries is what adults do. Whining about "reaching out" is apparently what the self appointed "activists" do.

(12,233 posts)the actual message to be involved by their leader; especially in this apathetic America... You act as if you know me and my life is a joke. Thanks for that message.. Btw, if you don't want to make progress, do you want to go backwards?
Like I said, he's done some really good things, to have a few disagreements is normal, we aren't robots.

(31,443 posts)a real thing, which is why many of us were corralled into this group, because anything positive about this president, anywhere else on the board, brought on unwarranted & OTT attacks. As I said before, this group is here for like minded people, who don't reflexively jump down the president's throat for any & all perceived slights. There's a whole big board out there for the talking points you've posted in this group.

(14,400 posts)because he was supposed to be the great Progressive hope. He alone would succeed in pushing through a pure progressive agenda.
He was thrown under the bus by a certain segment of the population before he even got unpacked.
Now Bernie Sanders is the new great Progressive hope. He alone will succeed in pushing through a pure progressive agenda.
I have no doubt that he would be tossed under the bus after about the same amount of time.

(4,176 posts)profit and often corruption is rewarded (just look at Trump, no way he has a penny let alone billions if he wasn't a criminal) and not get some results that reflect this reality.
In that scenario, what Obama has accomplished is even more amazing.
Bernie would be able to accomplish what the for profit, corrupt world will allow, and nothing more.

(37,468 posts)So many people on this site are blind to the harsh political realities out there. President Obama is the very best we could hope for in the current climate. He's done an awesome job, given all the Republican obstructionism.
Senator Sanders would be under the fucking bus the FIRST day of office, count on it. He would do something "wrong" or say something "wrong" and boom, under the bus. "Wrong" = not sufficiently progressive for a segment of DU.

(4,176 posts)condition their support on how things affect only them.
True liberals (not sure about this new word, progressive) would never not support the Democratic candidate at a time like this.
Some, myself included, will be disappointed if we are unable to take advantage of Bernie Sanders popularity and get him in office, but just because I am disappointed doesn't mean I have a right to tell everybody else to fuck off just because I didn't get my way.
