Optimism. The sky is the limit as to what we can achieve if we act with compassion toward our brothers and sisters.
I feel privileged to live in the time of this great liberal President. He has inspired me positively in many ways.

(9,652 posts)I couldn't watch the address without clocking the stoic to weary expressions on the faces in that chamber. And the outright disgust from those so-called "Christian" women guests - the nuns and the gay hater.
But then I listened to commentators, friends, a few idiots, and found out the whole address was intended for us and not those in the chamber. It made me feel better.
Then tonight I read how Brownback is cutting all funding for Planned Parenthood and blaming the Obama economy for Kansas' financial woes. How does Obama reach people who so relentlessly attack poor women? As well as those who refuse to listen? Do we have to do ALL the heavy lifting and shifting from center to right so that there's an even further far right?
The media is worse than useless. I've stopped watching MSMBC. I miss Obama already. It's excrutiating. We're being deserted on the battlefield. First Olbermann and Randi and Ed Schultz. Then the Colbert Report and Jon Stewart. Then the whole of MSMBC got Trumped. And soon we'll have some Republican POTUS and a mess to beat all messes. Dems hate HRC. And middle America hates Socialists. We need Biden or Warren or a miracle. And where the heck are the young Dems???
Sorry to kill your buzz. I'm terrified and don't want Obama to go even though I know he absolutely must.

(11,833 posts)people who share a liberal vision. There are millions of us out there. Probably enough to bring another democratic President into office. Find them and take sustenance with them. That's why I love this group and the African American group and take heart when I find other friends here. I know I'm not alone.
Some who are also inspired by President Obama, we can find in our daily lives. Some serve in office now, some are running for elections, and the ones I'm most optimistic about will eventually serve in high offices.
I don't listen to any of the pundits for the same reasons you describe. They're less than useless.
I know how you feel. I do take solace knowing people like you are as furious about the things you describe as I am. We're in the majority (though I know, it doesn't always feel like it).

(9,652 posts)"We the People.
Our Constitution begins with those three simple words, words weve come to recognize mean all the people, not just some; words that insist we rise and fall together. That brings me to the fourth, and maybe the most important thing I want to say tonight.
The future we want opportunity and security for our families; a rising standard of living and a sustainable, peaceful planet for our kids all that is within our reach. But it will only happen if we work together. It will only happen if we can have rational, constructive debates.
It will only happen if we fix our politics."
I'll leave you with these words from our prez.

The movement in his ratings which we would emphasize has not yet been verified in other public polls has been slight on a month-to-month basis. But his ratings have moved in a positive direction in two consecutive Post-ABC surveys. In May and July, Obama's ratings were more negative than positive, with 45 percent to 46 percent approving and 50 percent disapproving of his performance. That tipped the other way in September, to 49 percent approval and 46 percent disapproval. And that slight shift has continued in the latest survey.

This is Amazing considering all the cyberwaves and airwaves pushing ODS from the rabid rw and the other end of the spectrum biting at his heels.

(16,104 posts)makes it clear we are not going to have the two sides coming together.
The partisan division is clear as a bell, and no matter how hopefully any Democrats offer the olive branch we are going to pull back a stump! They will bite the hand.
If you observed how little positive response there was from Republicans at the accomplishments and hopeful outlook of the president, you should be afraid of where they want to take this country. The absolute revisionist history bullshit of the debate - Obama brought this country to financial ruin in 2008?
Who knows these Republicans best? Hands down, I'd say Hillary knows exactly who and what they are, including being "the enemy."
