In an emotional and, at times, tear-filled address, President Obama on Tuesday vowed to do something about the plague of gun violence and flexed his muscle via executive powers in an effort to slow the flood of firearms sales and help keep weapons out of the hands of potential gunmen. “People are dying and the constant excuses for inaction no longer do, no longer suffice,” he said.

Pictured here, an emotional Obama pauses as he speaks about the youngest victims of the Sandy Hook shootings, Jan. 5, 2016, in the East Room of the White House in Washington, D.C. (Photo by Jacquelyn Martin/@apimages)

Everyday for the last 8 years President Obama wakes up to a personal threat assessment, can't go anywhere or do anything without a plan and security including his wife and children.

This is the price to pay for holding the highest office in the USA?

Sick and shameful.

To live with this - and then know now all children, parents, teachers - not just in the poor parts of town, but everywhere - live under these same conditions - and over last 7 years Congress and the Supreme Court shrug their shoulders and mutter nothing will work, nothing can be done - "We have a God-given Constitutional right to have guns!"

Those are tears of frustration, anger, compassion and empathy. We should all be in tears.

They will call him weak, and will make fun of him for being a Cry baby liberal, and not a real man. That's cause many of them are Asses. They are ignorant and uneducated. They think their policies are strong, and bold, but its not. They are infantile, and I probably would call them Neanderthals...except that Neanderthals had FAR MORE COMMON SENSE THAN your average Republican idiot.

I guess I am tired of their HATE of the man. They really do hate him, and will never give him any credit for anything. I am pretty sure most of it is racial, and they will never stop hating him. Life was so much better, before the days of Fox News, and Rush Limbaugh...sure there was hate there but you didn't have to hear it, day in and day out. If this country ever goes into free fall it will be because of backward thinking.. and the modern Bigotry that's in the underbelly of this Nation. Its a sad thing to think about.

The only good news is that those sold guns are mostly going to people who already own guns.

Only about a fifth of the people in the US own a gun, the lowest percentage in history.

because I now have my first grandbaby and I can't for the life of me think what I would do if something like Sandy Hook ever happened to her. I also weep because nothing I have done has stopped this madness in our country and I want to do more, but in our country today money talks and buys politicians. Back in the year 2000 I went on the Million Mom March on our state's capitol and 16 years later, it's worse than ever.

I weep, too.

He has been an EXCELLENT President. I hope his great work will be recognized and valued in time.
