President Obama Addresses the Nation on Keeping the American People Safe (Obama Group)

This is a call for Democrats to make a stand!

And remember - Muslims are not the enemy - murderous sociopathic terrorists are!

For seven years, I have confronted this evolving threat each morning in my intelligence briefing. And since the day I took this office, I have authorized U.S. forces to take out terrorists abroad precisely because I know how real the danger is. As Commander-in-Chief, I have no greater responsibility than the security of the American people.

The need to act could not be more clear. From 2004 to 2014, for example, 2,000 people on the terror watch list were able to purchase guns.

To begin with, Congress should act to make sure no one on a no-fly list is able to buy a gun. What could possibly be the argument for allowing a terrorist suspect to buy a semi-automatic weapon? This is a matter of national security.

We also need to make it harder for people to buy powerful assault weapons like the ones that were used in San Bernardino. I know there are some who reject any gun safety measures. But the fact is that our intelligence and law enforcement agencies — no matter how effective they are — cannot identify every would-be mass shooter, whether that individual is motivated by ISIL or some other hateful ideology. What we can do — and must do — is make it harder for them to kill.

Now is the time, more than ever, to have a level headed Commander in Chief. Obama is that man at the right time.

I dont know what the alternative is to what we are doing that isnt working.

I think I'll continue to trust the President of the United States.

Makes just a hair more sense, doesn't it?

That isnt his fault, the alternative is to send troops or do nothing other than beef up security here.

I dont know the answer.

BTW, Engel is very good and reliable reporter, he simply reported on the facts.

6. What isn't working?

ISIL is contained, being defeated, destroyed.

We can't occupy Iraq and Syria! We don't want to! Congress won't even authorize it!

There are innocent civilians everywhere ISIL is. We can't carpet bomb to oblivion!

Our civil liberties and values make it difficult to stop every homegrown terrorist, especially the self-radicalized.

The argument we are faced with is no matter what we do and accomplish, the terrorist has to get it right just once!

We can look at that as a failure, or we can do something about it!
