Barack Obama
Related: About this forumAs someone new to a same-sex relationship, I appreciate Obama more than ever!
Not just the legislation he has supported. Not just the support, like bathing the White House in the gay pride colors. Not just the speeches in support of the LGBT community.
He and Michelle have really set the tone for acceptance in society. We have come a long way during this administration.
My partner and I attended a Fall festival/Oktoberfest celebration last week, holding hands and hugging. Not one negative comment. Not one problem. And I saw other same-sex couples doing the same. It was very nice.
I think this is what President Obama meant about fundamental change in the United States. And I think it is a beautiful thing. I thank him for it. Feeling free to love who you love and be who you are is real freedom.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, President Obama!

(4,309 posts)I vowed to never get married again and I never will. But "living in sin" (I was raised Catholic) with my lover is a wonderful thing.
And yes, President Obama and Michelle have voiced unbelievable support!
Peace, love and happiness to you this Halloween night, sister!!!

(10,237 posts)...being gay was considered criminal, a mental disorder and a perversion. I do confess that as a young man I was a bit of a homophone, but I was RAISED that way. Heck, last year I voted for a gay candidate for governor. Maine would be MUCH better off if he'd have won, too. My wife and I voted YES for marriage equality both in 2009, when it lost, and again in 2012 when Maine became the first state to have gay marriage by popu on at vote. My wife's best friend is married to another woman.
I agree that it is SO much better now and I agree that President Obama deserves much of the credit.
BTW, I wish you & your love much happiness and joy in your relationship!
PEACE!
