American Hostages Freed in Yemen (BOG)
SANAA, Yemen - The White House said Sunday two Americans held in Yemen have been released and are in Oman.
A statement from the National Security Council doesn't identify the Americans, but a spokesman for a New Orleans-based logistics company confirmed that employee Scott Darden was freed. The company, Transoceanic Development, said Darden was helping to deliver aid throughout the region for Transoceanic and relief organizations among its clients.
The Washington Post reports the other American, Sam Farran, 54, is a security consultant from Michigan.
The White House thanked the government of Oman for helping secure the release of the detainees.
Officials from Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebels said earlier Sunday they had released six foreigners whom they were holding hostage.
Both airport and Houthi officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters, said the six are flying to the Gulf nation of Oman, which negotiated their release.
The officials said the hostages, who were detained earlier this year, are three Americans, two Saudis and a British national. The identities of the hostages were not immediately known....
