Related: About this forum*BOG GROUP* US House voting on TAA, TPA, and Trade Enforcement and Customs
In progress - on CSPAN.
HR 1314 "Trade Act of 2015" contains TAA and TPA (as packaged and approved by Senate). The House leadership planned 2 separate votes on the TAA portion first, and if TAA passes, proceed to TPA portion.
HR 644 "Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015" Trade enforcement and Customs, would be the final related trade bill.
President Obama has met with the Democratic leadership and the Democratic Caucus to admonish his colleagues to support these bills. The House was in recess while the president was making this final push.
The House has just gaveled back in at 11 ET, votes to follow when debate ends.
Don't you miss pork? I do!

(33,544 posts)He's a spineless wonder Republican - but he's voting 'yes' - IF there is a 60 Day PUBLIC review of trade agreements. I.E. - If they are made available to be read by each and every one of us.
What I've read about the TPP thus far - I'm not too happy about.
But give me a chance to read the whole thing and let me find out if there is anything good in there.

(16,104 posts)President Obama is just asking we look at the final version of TPP before we condemn it!

(33,544 posts)I think it's been over the top.
I'd rather read it for myself and make my own decision. Instead of having people shove down my throat - It's soooooooooo bad. The world will end. Everything is awful in it.
We - not one of us knows that.

(16,104 posts)Yesterday the House voted to remove proposed Medicare funding of TAA displaced worker program. Pay-for now related to tax exemption violations and such, not Medicare!
Today, Democrats are on the floor of the House haranguing colleagues to kill TAA to save Medicare funding!
An example of the level of disingenuous manipulative BS!

(16,104 posts)Debate on HR 644 has started while 'things' are being worked out.

(15,703 posts)PBO couldn't get enough Repukes aboard to win it (that's what it looks like atm) so she figured it wasn't worth the vote if it was going to lose anyway.
Freaking repukes.

(16,104 posts)TAA to be reconsidered. (There will be no displaced workers because of trade - YAAAAHHHH!!!!)
What are they going to do?
The games afoot!

(15,703 posts)But yeah I think it's safe to say that it's gonna happen so ....

(16,104 posts)If those 40 Democrats hold, Boehner/Ryan just need 38 Republicans to change vote to yes.
40 Democrats plus 178 Republicans is 218 and TAA passes. TPA passed in the blink of an eye. Maybe they got the hard worrisome deal done, and have TAA up their sleeve.
The White House is calling it a "procedural snafu."
Everything President Obama gets done is ungodly real difficult.

(15,703 posts)I'm gonna call my Rep and urge yes on the revote. I tried a couple of times yesterday but the robo-turfers had the lines tied up LOL. Here are the final tallies on today's 3 trade bills:

(16,104 posts)I would be a great Majority Whip for Boehner - I can't count!
To get to 218, they need to flip 92 votes!
TV pundits are saying Nancy Pelosi is working hard for "Highway Bill." Considering the other 2 votes, there could be 92 votes to get!

(9,688 posts)You got that right.
I've lost patience with the meme that Obama has to stroke and soothecongressional representatives more. What about the reverse from time to time??
