A Bond That Will Never Be BrokenGeorge E. Condon Jr.: This Is How America Will Remember Barack Obama
Long after the last partisan battle has been fought over Obamacare, long after Barack Obama has settled into a comfortable post-presidency, and long after the last joke has been made about some Joe Biden verbal misstep, people will remember the moment when the always-in-control president struggled to control his emotions. They will remember the moment when president and vice president embraced in front of the altar and exchanged heartfelt kisses on the cheek. And they will remember how their hearts ached at this intimate glimpse of one familys pain. In an age when so many political moments are scripted, this was real. In a country whose presidents and vice presidents have rarely been close, this was genuine closeness. In an administration that prides itself on being hip, this was decidedly old-fashioned love.
The funeral at St. Anthonys was another highly personal moment for the president. White House aides have often tried to persuade reporters that this president and this vice president have a close bond. Just as often, reporters have voiced skepticism, aware of a two-century history of relationships ranging from open enmity to cool indifference between the men in the White House and their vice presidents. But more than six years into the presidency, it may be time to accept the claims as accurate. Even when Biden has misspoken or jumped the gun on positions, aides insist Obama harbored no anger at the vice president. Thats just Joe being Joe, they often say. Its part of who he is. They always appreciated Bidens loyalty and humanity. Saturday was a chance for the president to return that embrace. How he did it will be hard to forget.

That second picture, it looks like Joe is consoling Obama as he rests his head on Joe's shoulder.
Tears.
BOG For two men we so admire. They have touched our hearts.

I wonder (as I mentioned below) if there is some way for a poster once banned from a group, to sill self delete.
I might take that question to ATA if no one else knows the answer.

I'll remember Looking forward, the TPP, extending the Bush tax cuts and the Catfood Commission.
My response?
Is that necessary at a funeral for Biden's son? The man is burying his second child. Our Democratic VP and President ridiculed with glee, while a beloved son is buried.
You came into our group to dump yor crap. How would you feel if I came into the Bernie group and did the same?
Cha
(305,764 posts)wouldn't. Too much class. Too bad about those who are so mean spirited with a big ol Bernie flag.. I think Bernie would be disgusted.

A son died. Two men sharing the grief and so much pain. The second picture, it really looks like Obama is resting his head on Biden's shoulder. The grief is mutual. Biden is consoling him. That picture makes my heart break.
Thank so very much Cha.

Those who have nothing but ignorant pot shots even on a grieving thread will be lost in the heap of the dust bin pile of history. Sad really.
Mahalo to you, she~
I absof8ckinglutely am astonished that THIS post was allowed to stand a jury.
Cha
(305,764 posts)Unfortunately, I'm not surprised, Raine.. Course the jury is a crap shoot. could have been people with heart on that one.
But, he got Blocked from the BOG.. and got told exactly what kind of person he is.. won't be anywhere near this place again.

If I were to put what I'm thinking into print here, it'd be hidden 7-0 by a jury, so you can just fill in the blanks.

To hell with them.
I am not going there. I will not sink to there level.

(87,991 posts)We know how low you have sunk. A memorial thread for Beau Biden. Two men sharing grief.
You felt the need to come into our group and trash it. I sincerely hope that no one in your life has ever treated you with such disrespect at a time that you have lost a loved one. I really am at a loss for words.

(5,376 posts)Once again, here come the tears. Words can't express the sorrow I feel for the vice president, the gratitude I have that Barack Obama is our president, and the wonder at the way they care for each other. What a fortunate nation we are. How sad that there are those who are incapable of appreciating how we've been blessed by both of them.
And as always, you are a true blessing to me and all of DU.
Hugs and peace.

(9,688 posts)Yes, there are lot of fake politicians doing fake things, but NOTfrom these too.
Here are two real friends, sharing a moment of real shared grief, and deep, shared emotion.
A testimony to both of them.
And President Obama's eulogy was superb, for the same reason: eloquent, true, and from the heart.
President Obama is a class act, and anyone who sees differently, well, those folks surely don't see much of anything else.
If you compare Obama and Biden at the funeral with any of the Republican so-called presidential candidates , it's shall we say, a stunning contrast.
Very proud of, and moved by, my president yesterday.

(84,536 posts)Now THERE is real class. Genuine. Authentic. Understated. Warm. Compassionate.
Makes me want to check my posture, and make sure I'm standing up straight. I love and respect these gentlemen, fathers, sons, husbands, brothers-from-another-mother. They truly make a FINE team. World-class. And there's such a tangible warmth between them. You can tell they feel they're in this great work together and that they respect and care about each other - as men, as professionals, as executives, as public servants, and certainly as friends. Possibly the best such team America has had in a very long time. Totally genuine, each of them/both of them.
We are lucky, as a nation. We are VERY well-served with this particular management team in place. I'm gonna miss it when it's over.
Thanks for posting this, sheshe2 - just another wonderful assemblage!
