I know some at DU regard this as a big joke, but to me, it's not.
I think the Secret Service may want to review security at the White House. From news reports, this latest jumper almost made it to the north portico of the White House.
I say may, since I don't know what else can be done, short of installing a very high outer perimeter fence, drastically increasing personnel inside and outside of the fences, and/or prohibiting pedestrian traffic anywhere near the White House. Security vs. accessibility.
I'm glad the President and his family were safely out of town.

Sigh of relief. Maybe he's just a nut who wouldn't have hurt anyone.
Have they determined if he was armed or not? You know, exercising his 2nd amendment "freedom." Though there is likely a law against carrying within so many yards of the White House.

(37,468 posts)(Reuters) - The U.S. Secret Service has increased security measures along the road in front of the White House where a man scaled a fence on Friday and got inside the doors of the executive mansion, the agency said in a statement on Saturday.
Secret Service Director Julia Pierson ordered the measures after the breach, which was one of the most significant since President Barack Obama, who was not present at the time, took office.
A review is underway and the findings will be submitted to Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson.
"In the interim, Director Pierson has ordered the immediate enhancement of officer patrols and surveillance capabilities along the Pennsylvania Avenue fence line around the White House complex," the statement said. "These measures went into effect last night."

Iraq vet, 42, 'who stormed the White House had more than 800 rounds of ammunition, a machete and two hatchets stashed in his car'By Lydia Warren, Kieran Corcoran and Wills Robinson - Updated: 22 September 2014
...But relatives have insisted that Gonzalez, from Copperas Cove, Texas, suffers from post traumatic stress disorder after serving three tours in Iraq. He retired after losing part of his foot in an IED blast.
Jerry Murphy, whose mother was married to Gonzalez, said relatives always knew Gonzalez owned a small arsenal of weapons but said they doubted he intended to hurt Obama...
According to agents who arrested him, Gonzalez said that he was desperate to see the President to warn him about 'the atmosphere collapsing...'
His ex-wife said he was very paranoid and began carrying weapons all the time. He was up all night and checking things out. Finally she couldn't take it anymore.
'Omar is a good guy, he's just got some issues that he needs help with. I think this is a cry out for help, what he's done. He really does need help. I just hope he can get it.'

He needs immediate medical attention, and now he is guaranteed to get it.
Mudd said Gonzalez's "preoccupation with the White House and accumulation of large amounts of ammunition in apparently a short period of time renders him a danger to the president," in arguing that he not be released on bond.

(53,661 posts)She knows better than to call out the GOP on this because they employ her, just like all the rest. She sends up smoke signals but never follows through to that.
They all know better than to go too far as they'll be smeared so they can't get a job at another place, so their fans will discredit them, and then they fire them. Punishment is sure and swift for dissenters.
