He's good at that Presidenting stuff after all.
He's a failure, and weak and a dictator and lawless and hasn't accomplished one thing in his entire presidency!11!
How could I have missed all that failure

(35,392 posts)and yet, they dismiss Obama as a failure.
Of course Bush43 looks better the further away from 1/19/2009 we get ... it's the "Tootsie" effect.

(492 posts)with each passing year, but Bush43 -- and his Presidency -- were the worst things that ever happened to this country. Time can heal the pain but not the facts.

(6,151 posts)It's a beautiful chart indeed.
I don't know whether some of the local teabaggers have left me in peace a lot more lately because they've given up on me, or whether any of them are beginning to see the light. At least a glimmer.... in the distance....
President Obama's correct, too, about how several years from now when ACA's in full swing, lots of people will NOT want to call it ObamaCare. God forbid POTUS should get credit for anything!

(6,151 posts)Though I certainly put a stop to that political hate crap they wanted to vomit in Sunday School. Ruined their fun, I did, and I'm not even a member of that congregation - just a regular visitor. Cheeky! You'd think with recent events and GOP scandals, there wouldn't be a single Republican left in town. But I am convinced that HRC could carry this county in '16, if not the whole state. And I am keeping my eyes on midterms, never worry.

IMHO, we get a lot of play in GD and the home page, sadly not as much as the bashing.

The Dow went down to 6500 shortly after Obama took over so the 7950 doesnt show the depth of the Bush crash.
I've heard the GDP GROWTH went as low as -9%.
TYPO?-The DEFICIT GDP should be DEFICIT/GDP or DEFICIT-to-GDP or deficit as a percent of GDP.
And the Unemployment went all the way up to 10.5% shortly after Obama took office again not showing the full extent Obama has dug us out.

(5,069 posts)"We can choose to believe that Superstorm Sandy, and the most severe drought in decades, and the worst wildfires some states have ever seen were all just a freak coincidence," Obama said during his State of the Union address. "Or we can choose to believe in the overwhelming judgment of scienceand act before it's too late."

If Congress won't act soon to protect future generations, I will," he said. "I will direct my Cabinet to come up with executive actions we can take, now and in the future, to reduce pollution, prepare our communities for the consequences of climate change, and speed the transition to more sustainable sources of energy."
But what can Obama do?
Industry insiders, lobbyists, and experts say the president has already gotten the ball rolling on a host of administrative actions that he was likely alluding to in his speech.
James McGarry, a policy analyst at the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, a regional group that supports climate change legislation, says that thanks to a 2007 Supreme Court decision forcing the Environmental Protection Agency to move ahead with regulating carbon dioxide and some other gases as pollutants, the Obama administration is already working unilaterally to curb emissions but their biggest moves to date are imminent.

ENERGY Clean Energy Experts to Offer Obama a Path Forward Without CongressA new report will suggest 200 executive actions on climate and energy.
While he doesn't have any plans to meet with Obama again, Ritter said he does plan to meet with John Podesta, Obama's new senior adviser on these issues, and others sometime in the next week or so.
One White House official praised the report. "The administration is committed to moving to cleaner energy solutions, and welcomes this set of recommendations for moving forward on energy efficiency, renewables, advanced vehicles, and other key energy priorities," White House spokesman Matt Lehrich said in an email.
The Environmental Protection Agency's carbon regulations for power plants are the cornerstone of Obama's climate agenda, and they certainly draw the most criticism. But the White House is simultaneously implementing many other components of his plan announced in June, and the report to be released Tuesday will show the breadth of what an administration can do without Congress.

(5,069 posts)With the planned obsolescence and waste embedded in the system, changing the light bulbs and driving a few hybrid vehicles contributes to the GHG emissions.....There is no way to 'grow our way' out of the environmental crisis no matter how many statistics big business produces. Big business initiatives such as fuel efficient cars for example just cause people to dry farther with more cars.

Since the initial climate change summit at Rio de Janeiro in 1992, administrations from both parties have worked to undermine the emissions reductions and weaken participation by other states. This was especially true of the Obama Administration's behavior at the Copenhagen Summit when he worked behind closed doors to undermine participation...Now it is coming out about the NSA spying on the participants. Despite SoS Kerry's rhetoric, there has been limited actions by this administration to reduce climate change - in fact by pushing the Trans XL and TPP, their initiatives will make climate emissions worse.

Look at who Obama appoints as Energy Secretary - big ties to BP and fracking and nuclear industries...

Despite the rosy scenario that these pro-corporate (and let's be honest they are all pro-corporate statistics and come from big business), the statistics for the 99% of the US population are worse....The unemployment numbers for example don't reflect the lack of employment for the people who have stopped looking for work...They also don't measure the rising gap in
income inequality like life expectancy which is a derivative of the rising inequality..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy
And I will not even mention the statistics on war and peace and how our military empire is expanding and has expanded over the past 5 years, nor will I mention Obama's being the first Democratic Party president to put social security and medicare cuts on the table....and to privatize public education.

(23,156 posts)a remarkable number of posters here say that the economy is just as bad as ever, no one gets hired anymore, especially no one over 60. Or over 50. Or over 40. It's completely impossible to retire, ever. And so on.
I'm with you, however. Things have gotten better. They can still get a lot better and I hope they will.
When I was much younger I was taught that revolutions were most likely to occur not when things were at their worst, but only after things had started to get better.

(25,111 posts)Corporate media won't cover this. GOPers in congress instead of creating jobs, helping the unemployment, cutting social issues, fucking with women rights and her body, fucking with voting rights, won't do a damn thing about immigration, gun control, y'know the things that would benefit common Americans, but house gopers are securing a bill "stopping the President from overreaching" bill. What a load of shit.
