Finding Me on Bartcop or Obama is a Fraudsnip/
I hear you, Neil, and Im sure youre not alone among liberals and progressives in feeling disappointment and a sense of betrayal by some of the actions of the President and Dems in Congress. In a more perfect world, I suppose, there would be no American troops in either Iraq or Afghanistan, Guantanamo would be closed, tax rates for the top 2 percent would be higher, implementation of a true universal health care system with a single payer system would be in place, comprehensive immigration reform legislation would be enacted, marriage equality in all 50 states would be a reality, the countrys infrastructure woes would be addressed as would the undeniable dangers imposed by climate change. These and every other item on progressives wish list would either have been dealt with in the last five years or be in the process of being dealt with, except that
we dont live in a perfect world, and
democracy tends to get a little messy most of the time and
getting everything you want is not a realistic goal even when youve won the White House and half of Congress in consecutive national elections, and
Democrats are dealing with the most reckless, hostile opposition in the history of the United States.
Thats the reality, Neil. While criticism and frustration has been expressed by liberals and progressives toward some of President Obamas policies, theres not a hell of a lot of room to criticize a man who is trying to govern in what has to be described as the most obstructionist environment a president has ever found himself in. When forced to deal with an opposition who has made compromise a 4-letter word and Republican policy is being dictated by a couple of billionaire brothers, Fox News, conservative hate radio and a small group of crazy, delusional baggers operating in an 18th century mindset, what did you expect?

(30,058 posts)Wiggle his nose and grant all of their wishes. The penny Annie gripping on this Democrat site is disturbing. Many times the posts sounds like Sean or Rush wrote them but I also seems to be a Libertarian leaning group at times. President Obama has accomplished many things but could have done more with the proper backup.

(305,440 posts)dribble like the letter to Mario Peperni, she. It's like they're brainwashed and not living in the reality of what exactly is going on here.
I so admire those like Mr Peperni who can calmly deconstruct what those who "have written off the Dems" are selectively complaining about.
And, this from a comment below the article..
"Finally, Neil, what you interpret as fraudulent behavior on the part of President Obama is, I believe, pragmatism coming from a president who is forced to operate in a world of complexity and nuance we can only begin to imagine."
Bravo to Mario Peperni! she Mahalo~

(87,557 posts)I just have a need to pull a pillow over my head. The crazy talk is out of control!
I want progress, I want change, I want equality for every man woman and child. I want equal pay and equal opportunities for everyone. Does that make me a progressive, or a right of center Democrat? Do I really need to be the left of the left to get what America needs.

(87,557 posts)The democratic brand was sullied. It continues to be so.
I am a Democrat. I feel no need to accomplish my goals to be left of the left of the left. I am not an extremist. I do not believe in my way or the highway. I want equality and fairness. Is that so wrong to expect?

(53,661 posts)Democrat that we have been seeing for so long from the big money media that plays their masters' tune. Some swallowed the bait, believe they are part of a wave that will grant their fantasies, but there is nothing happening in the real world to prove that they are winning. Not looking in the mirror, they continue to tear down those who do good.
Obama and Democrats are dealing with the reality they push to the side which is that half of the nation hates what we love. The ones who claim to be better than us, have taken up the banner of other parties that they have been told will give a utopia.
They have blinders on and don't see that the big money funds all sides of the media and they're being fooled. They don't respect us because we do not have a perfect solution, the simplistic ones that the media tells them will work.
There can be no one answer to the demands of over 300 million people that some here mock. They have not changed anything that way. Those they despise are still going to be active no matter what we do.
If we are not active, we have been complicit in their taking away all we worked for. So it goes.

(87,557 posts)Half of the nation hates what we love...yes that sums it up well. A very sad statistic.
We will indeed remain active, without that, we die!

(6,151 posts)of what to have printed across the back in big bold letters - anything at all. I chose "PROUD DEMOCRAT".
Nobody here in RedNeckLand is going to mistake me for a part timer or someone who just happened to vote a certain way one election. I even wrote in one my letters to the newspaper that the Democratic Party is my family, and when somebody attacks them, they'll hear from me. And they do. That's why I'm so damned popular here I couldn't get elected dogcatcher if it was a volunteer position. But I don't give a damn. (I'm also aware of a certain undercurrent of very guarded approval.)

So many of the BOG have been labeled vile 3rd-way, centrists for saying the exact same thing. Which brings me to this, equally accurate observation:
Especially, the "...a president who is forced to operate in a world of complexity and nuance we can only begin to imagine" part!

(87,557 posts)He deals in reality and it is complex, 1SBM, a fact that so many wish to deny. There are no easy solutions, many think there are. They are wrong.

(31,849 posts)about that complexity and nuance during the NSA dust-up ... something to the effect that President Obama (and the dreaded governmental actors) are making decisions on what should, or should not happen, based on information that We D. People do not, and arguably should not, have access to; whereas, his detractors are forming their opinions based on(media provided) information that everyone admits is incomplete and (repeatedly demonstrated to be) inaccurate. Yet everyone of his detractors insist that they know better than he.
It boggles my mind!

(53,661 posts)I don't think I've ever seen anyone who is so alive and yet focused on the big better. And as Schaeffer said and many people have realized, he has a good heart.
He is not naive, and is conscious of his limited time to accomplish what he set out to do and pushes for that which holds fast to the mission. As far as all the pettiness and disdain, he is, like the poem we discussed before, in every way, a man that is holding on with every sinew.
I have a bad feeling that whoever is in office after him, will fold to the big money. And the challenges will keep coming, but he won't be there to meet them for us.
IrishAyes
(6,151 posts)but even if he were rash enough to run for president in '16 and it would take a lightning strike for him to win a single primary, never in my wildest dreams do I want him on the ticket. I can absolutely adore all sorts of people, but I'm only going to vote for one kind - the candidate with the greater chance of moving America forward in the best direction. Step by step, inch by inch if that's what it takes. That's why all the charming and tempting siren calls for a third party fall on such deaf ears.
