Barack Obama

This one is bittersweet. The moment at the inauguration where President Obama looks over the crowd one last time. It was great to see him at his second inauguration after the media counted him out but very sad knowing that this is his last term. Id keep him for a third term but that wouldnt be fair to his family.

(4,309 posts)For Christmas my daughter gave me 30 different Obama 2012 buttons fastened to a black felt background and beautifully framed. I already have it hung up where I will see it every day. A wonderful reminder of our work together with the Obama 2012 campaign and Women For Obama.
I needed that tonight, too. We have a President who believes in peace, equality and basic human rights. That is truly a blessing.
The ACA is the law of the land and affordable health care is a wonderful thing. I just hope we can give Obama a Congress he can work with in 2014.
We love you, too. Thank you for your uplifting and informative posts which inspire me and others.
Peace and Love!

(53,661 posts)There was an interview with the lead singer, Sting,. He said after they had completed their 1983 Synchronicity tour in America, the experience was such a high point spiritually, nothing could compare. Thus he took a break.
He wanted to hold onto that high point of his life. There are special moments or places in life, things we have achieved, that will never be repeated. We used call moments like that 'a slice of heaven' and we don't want to sully the memory.
Obama was savoring the moment after a hard fought campaign, after 4 years of having the gates of hell opened on him to test his mettle, and still able to hold onto his vision.
At the end of one interview soon after the inaugurations, he remarked on how many days he had left to serve. He is very aware of his time in office limitations.
He intends to do the best he can with every day. That is life well lived, total awareness, something sorely lacking with most people. I am glad to have lived in this era, despite all the fear and anger and pain.
I already miss him, although I am still loving every morning when I wake up and Barack Obama is president!

(87,272 posts)The gates of hell did indeed open, yet he stands so tall and proud. He stands with integrity and honor. Also with a dignity that all the naysayers will never be able to take from him.
I too am so proud to be a part of this history. We lived it, freshwest.
I tried to find a photo, the one taken from behind President Obama at that moment. It was a moving photo, seen through his eyes. Sadly I was unable to find it.
Best President ever~

Also found the GOP reaction:
After inauguration, political reality returns to Washington
Washington (CNN) -- The first day of business of President Barack Obama's second term began with a prayer service Tuesday, but it will take more than spiritual guidance to change the divisive culture of Washington politics.
Conservative critics of the president wasted no time ripping into an inaugural address laden with progressive themes such as climate change, gun control, gay rights and immigration reform.
More specifically, they targeted the president's vigorous defense of costly but popular entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
"One thing that is pretty clear from the president's speech yesterday -- the era of liberalism is back," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky. "An unabashedly, far left-of-center inauguration speech certainly brings back memories of the Democratic Party of ages past."
