What a year it has been!!
So, as a year end wrap-up thread of sorts, I thought I would say that it has been one hell of a bumpy ride.
But, here we are, finally, at the end of the year.
It would be less than honest of me if I didn't tell all of you guys and gals that it has been hard for me to stay here to make comments after reading some of the harsh, unwarranted criticism of the President that I helped to elect, and then to re-elect.
Especially the kind that never seems to take a break at the DU.
There's not much that I can do about that, so I pretty much just pass on commenting on most of that contrived falderal anymore.
As far as I'm concerned, President Obama is the greatest President of the United States in the entire history of the United States.
And since I've been interested in American history ever since the 3rd grade, I'm fairly certain that is an accurate assessment of President Obama, having studied the rest of the American Presidents for the last 50 years.
As a politically-minded person, who is aware of what is going on most of the time, I can assure you that I have never seen such a level of undeserved, discombobulated vitriol expressed by just one political party directed at the President ever before in my entire life.
So, if you weren't for you guys here in the Barack Obama Group, I would have been long gone.
You are undoubtedly the best people the DU has to offer.
And I am grateful for that.
For the first time since I have been on the internet, for almost 15 years, I have to admit that I'm actually jealous of someone else that I've met on the internet.
I don't want to point out any one individual, but on that note, Cha, I have to tell ya, I'm jealous of you.
There you are, in beautiful Hawaii, our 50th state, the island paradise of the United States, the state that I have always dreamed of moving to ever since Elvis did 2 or 3 movies there, at the very same time that our President is vacationing there!
Plus, on top of that, my hometown college football team, the Boise State Broncos, are playing in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve!
Against Oregon State.
I just learned the other day that Oregon State is where Michelle Obama's brother is the head coach of their basketball team.
Hmmm, divided loyalties.
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to root for a tie!
Naw, that ain't ever going to happen.
I really wanted to go to this bowl game, and that was even before I found out that President Obama was going to go home for the Christmas break for a short vacation.
But, it's probably a good thing that I didn't get to go.
I would have just hounded him if I would have been there, if the Secret Service didn't prevent me from bugging him to death, asking him a hundred questions for hours on end.
So, he lucked out . . I am stuck in Boise, freezing my tootsies off.

(305,406 posts)I can really see how you'd want to be out here on the Islands for Christmas.. I use to dream of it when I was still back in New York at the base of the Adirondacks for 12 years. Brrr! Boise, Idaho is probably colder!

It's a small world!.. Congratulations on your hometown college football team, MH! Here's a couple of pics of the Obamas and Michelle's brother, Craig Robinson, at the Diamond Head Classic, yesterday.
Looks like Akron won.. 83-71..

(87,490 posts)Well said...I would have to agree with you, best President ever. He has accomplished so much.
Can you just imagine where we would be if not for congress. Well that said we can make it our priority to sweep the House in 2014!
Stay warm in Boise and have a blast watching the Boise State Broncos on Christmas Eve.

I'm in the NE where it has been unseasonably warm but is going back to winter temps today.

(6,151 posts)We only have a few feet of snow yet, but it's been here 2 weeks. Got down to the minus 10's. While I'd love to visit Hawaii, I prefer living as far north as possible, because I'm a regular polar bear. If you don't believe me, just say something good about the GOP and I'll prove it.
Of course I know you'd never do that.
I quit GD too because too many people relieve themselves in public, and I never found that tolerable. I've been mistaken as an easy target myself at times, especially here in the redneck MidWest where I retired because it's cold and affordable; so I really take it to heart when people don't give President Obama a fair shake. And I love it when people stick up for him. Thank you.
