He was nine when he asked the President that question and in the latest picture hes 12. President Obama stood there with us, talked for about three minutes, he remembered Tyren and signed an 11 x 14 picture of their first encounter.
Tyren and I are doing great. I visit the website several times a day and was surprised to see Tyren. Hes growing up to be a fine young man. I am not saying that because he is my son, I say that because he has a great heart. He was upset with the verdict in the Zimmerman trial. As a matter of fact after President Obama spoke on Friday he emailed the President on Sunday.
I had to have that talk with him on how to be careful especially as a young black teen.
Hes still very respectful (yes sir/no sir). Tyren is still a good student and hes involved in the community. He loves people and he does not see color until it slaps him in his face. I had to tell him he is not a thug.

A whole movement cropped out of that hatred and they call themselves the Tea Party. That didn't happen when Clinton was President and Clinton was a little more liberal than Obama on policy. That hints that there is something else. While I can speculate on what that is it would be just that, speculation, so "they" need to step out of the shadows and start answering that question. At least John McCain has now stepped out of the shadow but he never explained why he stepped into the shadow in the first place.

(53,661 posts)How do you look in the eyes of a child and tell them as much of the truth as you can, and not crush their spirit or make them go to the dark side to survive?
Obama handled the question with such wisdom and grace that I was speechless, like most of the adults there seemed to be.
The unspoken word - racism - was left out. But there is as has been said, a very clear message in the hatred toward Obama that is hard to separate from race. We would like to see otherwise. But we would be denying some uncomfortable truths about this country and its history.
The picture I posted of the woman crying over the Trayvon verdict, was not as hard to see as the look on the face of the two little boys beside her:
Denying historically that black males have been a target, killing like a social or sporting event for years, is dishonest.
What a future to look forward to, how that makes one feel deep inside that they will forever be 'The Other.' For nothing that they do or say.
Just being. This is so against the human spirit. Obama has come at a crucial time in the evolution of mankind, if we are to change and do better.
Some won't, they will get their reward. Those who can embrace their humanity, will weep and change. Others are already there and should be the leaders.
