Barack Obama

I'm really losing my stomach for the other groups here. It's getting hard to find a dime's worth of difference between the trolls and some of the supposedly faithful posters. The need for absolute purity is as bad as it is in RW wackoland. I'm not happy about the NSA stuff, but come on...how far did whining, complaining and demands for purity get us back in 2010 when Democrats stayed home during the elections? There's a huge difference between Obama and Bush, and I'm tired of folks saying they're the same. Spying has been going on FOREVER...it's not like he's the first President to use the power. At least Obama is following the law, as flawed as that law is. I also remember him telling Congress a few months back that if they didn't like the way he was using the law then TAKE THE POWER AWAY, which the rethugs will NEVER do...they just want only Republicans to be able to use it. If we were attacked again, the same people would be screaming that Obama didn't do everything he could to protect us, and why weren't our security organizations aware of this stuff!! And for some reason, Snowden has been elevated to a combination of Christ and Ghandi.
Anyhow, I plan to spend a lot of time at this forum...it's really the only thing keeping me here at DU. Well, you guys and Sunday Morning LOL Cats.

(53,659 posts)Seems some DUers have a crush on Snowden. Just in one recent thread, one excitedly said she was "hoping" he "will soon be able to see his girlfriend!" and another gushed over the possibility of hanging out with "our new friend, Eddie" while "sipping mojitos" on the beach...and she posted that with dreamy beach pictures.
Seriously, I'm not making it up. Check the links.

(3,157 posts)During my late husband's illness, I was away from the site for a long time, and just got back a couple of years ago. (Had to re-register 'cause I forgot all my log-in info!) I couldn't believe the change. This is going to be a good fit. I think DU has lost too many good people (Nance Greggs comes to mind) because of the flaming, lack of respect, and demand for "our way or the highway" mentality that took over in the main forums. The "Obama is the same as Nixon" meme was the last straw for me. This place isn't Freeper land. Just like the RW loons who worship the 2nd Amendment and refuse to come to grips with the fact that it's NOT 1784 anymore, and guns aren't the single shot muskets the Founders were dealing with, keeping us safe from attacks can not be re-active...it must be pro-active. And unfortunately, sometimes that involves gathering information. When Reagan first took a meat ax to the 4th Amendment, those of us on this side of the aisle had to put up with "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about" (straight out of 1984!) I was having a lot of fun using that on my RW friends when they lit their hair on fire and ran around in circles. I never thought I'd have to tell people that on my side of the aisle. Nobody's personal calls, emails, etc. are being looked at unless the calls are going someplace that will raise a red flag.
But I'm preaching to the choir here...you guys rock!!!
