I was never panicked in 2008 or 2012....not once. I watched and stayed calm, I knew!

However if you take my news sources away from me~ yikes!

I found a channel five source on the net that had results, however you had to refresh the page every few seconds...it just showed stats. Said it would have a live stream soon. Never happened, Cha

However~ Senator Markey goes to Washington!

2012.. now that I can relate to from the ledge.

ln 2008 I was in New York and stayed in fetal position all night on my bed. I couldn't watch anything. It took my son calling me from Kaua'i saying that he had run out of gas and the person who stopped to help him said.. "So a Black guy is President now". It gave me hope but then I had to confirm it so I finally went on DU. Got hope from a racist! What!

In 2012 I stayed away from DU and was on TOD until I knew PBO got a second term! And, the next day made my sig line from a quote taken from FB via DU.

I'm so happy for you, she, Senator Markey and family and friends!

I was terrified turnout would be light and Gomez would squeak in the way Brown did.

Oh, he wouldn't stay in, just like Brown. However, it would have been terrible had Markey not chosen to face him again.

Never heard the term before...and have been here my whole life.

Or just the deep rut we sunk in after Brown.

Or maybe it's another pronunciation of Massachusetts! Sorta like saying MAAAAA-HKEY!

We are Boston Strong! We just proved it again!

Thanks Warpy~

Senator from Massachusetts, Edward Markey!

Edward John "Ed" Markey (born July 11, 1946) is an American politician who is the United States Senator-elect from the state of Massachusetts, as well as the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts's 5th congressional district since 1976. The district, numbered as the 7th District from 1976 to 2013, includes most of Boston's northern and western suburbs, such as Medford and Framingham. He is the longest-serving member of both the Massachusetts and New England House delegations and the second longest-serving current member of Congress from New England, behind Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont. A member of the Democratic Party, he is a liberal who has focused on energy policy. He serves on two energy committees and is the former Chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. Markey won the 2013 special election to succeed John Kerry in the U.S. Senate, defeating Republican Gabriel E. Gomez.[1]

This is Markey in 1989:

Congressional Progressive Caucus, and the National Journal gave him a "Composite Liberal" score of 89.2...

Pressure from Markey prompted British Petroleum to provide a live underwater video feed showing oil leaking out of a pipe in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010.[15] Markey has been a longtime critic of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and has been critical of the NRC's decision-making on the proposed Westinghouse AP1000 reactor design and the NRC response to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.[16][17]

In 2011, Markey criticized Republicans and the Tea Party movement, saying "Rick Perry and these other guys are allergic to science...too many of the tea party people, who basically don’t believe in science, are now controlling the Republican Party."[18] In reply to Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin's position on how the American Clean Energy and Security Act (also known as Waxman-Markey, named after Markey and Henry Waxman) could had a negative impact for Alaskans,[19] Markey wrote an article criticizing Palin's inaction on global warming and her environmental positions.[20]

Markey sarcastically suggested in August 2010 that global warming skeptics form their own country on an iceberg: “An iceberg four times the size of Manhattan has broken off Greenland, creating plenty of room for global warming deniers to start their own country.”

Markey also said that, at the time, 2010 was the hottest recorded year, and "scientists agree arctic ice is a canary in a coal mine that provides clear warnings on climate.”[21][22]

Markey has derided Republicans' stance on global warming, stating during a hearing: "I won’t physically rise, because I’m worried that Republicans will overturn the law of gravity, sending us floating about the room.”[23]

In January 2011, House Republicans eliminated the Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming, which had been created by Nancy Pelosi in 2006 and chaired by Markey.[24]
