Democrats
Related: About this forumJohnson(R-WI) is the Republican version of Wellstone(D-MN).
Both are Midwestern US Senators. MN and WI
Both were elected by unseating high profile US Senators. Boschwitz(R-MN) and Feingold(R-WI).
Both are idealogues.
Both won re-election against the same opponents.
Both broke pledges not to seek a third term.
The only difference is Wellstone died 10 days before the November 2002 General Election. The Republican nominee Norm Coleman-R narrowly won that election.
If Johnson were to get arrested 10 days before the November 2022 General Election and remanded in custody for being a flight risk. The Democratic nominee Sarah Godlewski-D will narrowly win this election.

(41,354 posts)Johnson is not the republican version of Wellstone.
Johnson is corrupt and he is an idiot.
Wellstone was a man with a moral compass who followed his enormous heart and was dedicated to making the world a better place.

(8,617 posts)If Wellstone had not died, Would he have won a third term in 2002. The Coleman-Mondale race was close.
Coleman won by a 2.2 percent margin.
Wellstone would have won a third term in 2008.
In 2014, Wellstone would face a very tough re-election campaign. 2014 was a bad year for Democrats. Democrats lost 9 US Senate seats. MN is a swing state.
