The missing "PDF Printer" (a bit technical)

In the old days, I had an app on the mac that was called "PDF Printer".

The nice thing is that you could set it as the default printer and then command-P would print to PDF. Done.
But none showed up on the newer systems.

I looked for one and sure enough there's one for $20.00

Not my cup of tea.

So, looking around, Safari and some other apps have a File-Export as PDF... menu option. 💡

WARNING. This ain't going to be easy or obvious, but follow the steps below

Under System Settings
Select Keyboard
Look for and select Keyboard shortcuts...

Skip down to App Shortcuts
Open the > next to All Applications

Click + at the bottom of the screen
When it asks for a command, type Export as PDF...
(it has to be exactly the same as the menu item)
And select a key combination. I selected command-E because it always seemed to do nothing in my apps.
It may interfere with one or more of your apps that actually use command-E, so be warned and choose another.

hit done
I just tried it on this page and it offered to save the page as PDF.

ALTERNATIVE WAY
Just bring up the print dialog (usually command-P )

Go under the PDF pulldown menu at the bottom.
Select "Save as PDF"
For me, just clicking on the pulldown rather than pulling down works.

Until I found the trick above.
One command.

You can create an entire workflow (fonts, justification, output to file or printer, etc.) and execute it with kybd shortcuts.

Tutorials on the yootoob.
