Recommendation help (MacBook Pro) and iPhone doc rec (Azpen or otherwise)

Right now, I'm using an old MacBook Pro, 15". It's about 6 years years old now and in need of a replacement. I'm thinking the 13" model with a connected bigger screen.

As for the audio, I'm using an Azpen dock for my iPhone 8. There's an audio issue where it'll skip the first second of a song, but play the rest fine. As for audiobooks... think about that but for almost every sentence (ugh). Any recommendations for a replacement or, maybe I should get a set of regular speakers?

Thanks.

Hi, I don't understand which device you are having trouble with JDC Feb 2021 #1
It's the Azpen dock sakabatou Feb 2021 #2
Ok. I assume it's a Bluetooth unit? JDC Feb 2021 #3

My guess is that your problem is bluetooth related. Latency issues occurred more often with Bluetooth 4.1 and earlier, from what I can remember. If you are using differing versions of bluetooth among your three devices, that could be your problem. I don't know, further, whether the cutting out of your sound has the same cause as latency, but my guess is that they're related. I have latency problems if my receiving device is using Bluetooth 4.1 or earlier. If it's using BT 5.0, I'm okay. But you don't know which device is causing your problem anyway, so I'd troubleshoot the issue. But first, make sure all of your devices are up to date (may not be possible with older iPhones or older MBPs), then start swapping out the MBP with another more recent laptop, then do the same with a more recent version of the iPhone, etc. I don't know anything about Azpen docks, but you may have to swap it with another Aspen dock that's more recent. See if there is an update or firmware upgrade for the Azpen. That might help.

Wish there was an easy way to check out different docks combos. *sigh*
