Excel jumps while booting?

Several weeks ago, as soon as I opened my desktop Mac I had a notice of a new Excel. Was going to ask whether it would still read my old files but left it.

Now, each time when I boot I am faced with a full screen Excel spreadsheet.

Do others face it? Any idea on how to disable it?

Don't get me wrong. Everything that has to do with nickels and dimes (and dollars) is entered on an Excel spreadsheet one way or the other. But this is getting tiresome.

except that now I have a new office program so I am told that it cannot be opened.

As a new owner I contacted Apple support and... in the System Preferences, in the Users icon there is a tab Login Items and here it was, open Excel. Don't know how it got it but selecting it and the - sign solved it.

Just in case..

I did as you prescribed booted in protected mode, ran Norton Virus Scan for the whole framework, yet my cursor still holds hopping to the lower left hand corner, and once in a while tapping the Start catch. Do you know what kind of infection it may be in the Master Boot Sector? My Norton antivirus is an extremely essential form, so it probably won't have the capacity to distinguish the infection. Any counsel?

Click the Apple icon at top left of your monitor.
Select System Preferences
Click on Users&Groups in that window.
Select your account under Current User on the left
Select Login Items at the top of that window
If my suspicion is correct, you will see Excel there
Select it
Hit the "-" sign below
Close the window

You may need to click the lock at the bottom left of the screen and login to make changes.
