I have an apple MacBook Pro that is several years old 4 or 5

and for some reason when I go to my mail on the left hand side it is missing some of my folders where I keep messages relating to that subject.
I had one for my
son
daughter
medical information
emails from certain people that i wanted to look at again
and they are gone.

I know enough about computers (I am a senior citizen) to KNOW that they are stilll are
and I must have somehow deleted them.e

drafts
sent
trash
junk

Apple hot news and that is all I am missing my most important folder. Can anyone please
help me? Most of my friends do not have Apple computers, this one was a gift to me and had
been mailed to me from California, and I couldn't tell them I didn't want it (that's another story) lol.

1. Hopefully it is as simple as this...

You may have accidentally clicked 'Hide'

1) Hover your cursor over the words 'ON MY MAC' or if you were using them over 'SMART MAILBOXES'
2) The word 'Show' should appear to the right of those words
3) Click 'Show' and hopefully your folders should show up underneath

When not hidden, the invisible word will be 'Hide.'

2. Okay, I put my cursor over both and I don't see Show but I see

the number 58 beside ON MY MAC...I can only assume (I think) that those would probably be the 58. Is there a way to find them. I have seen hide up in the words at the top but have always been afraid to hit "hide" thinking I would not know how to retrieve... Yep, I don't know as much as I thought...thats for your answer thus far, I hope that tells you more...sorry to be a pest.

3. The number is a count of unread messages within folders that are within ON MY MAC.

Now hover the tip of your arrow/cursor directly over the number (58)

It should slide a tiny bit to the left and the word 'Show' should appear. Click on Show.

If all else fails, type in the search bar the email address of the email of someone contained in those folders or a keyword like a name or medication. You should see some of the saved emails come up, that way at least you'll know they are in there somewhere.

4. Ok, here's what happened, it DID give me all 58

emails, but they are not in different folders, I didn't see the word SHOW, but when I clicked in
the area you tell me to click on 58 emails immediately goes into my original emails and is the first 58
emails right before today's emails. and they all have flags on them.

We're getting somewhere, i guess, thanks so much....I hope you have one more little trick up
your sleeve

I actually don't remember how to make new files under ON MY MAC or maybe I could try to put
them back in new folders. Appreciate this, and I guess I could always delete the ones I don't need

5. While you are in Mail, move your cursor to the 'Mailbox' pulldown menu from the menu bar.

- Click on Mailbox, move the cursor down and click on 'New Mailbox'

You should get a dialog box that lets you select the 'Location' where to save the new mailbox.

- Name it (something different from the folders that disappeared, just in case) and save it to ON MY MAC

See if it shows up in your sidebar under ON MY MAC

If it does, at this point I am curious to see if your old folders show up.

If not, try to drag one of the 58 emails to the new folder.

6. I am in mail, I looked for the "mailbox" pulldown menu it is NOT on the menu bar.

Is there some way to add it to my menu bar?

7. Oh I just found the menu...down in the lower left of the screen there is a PLUS I clicked on it

and it sail mailbox. it gives me a location box I will try.

8. Now this is getting confusing

when I click on the PLUS I see the box to create a new name.
I renamed 3 difffernt folders to go to ON MY MAC nothing happened

but when I scrolled to the right of the ON MY Mac in the box where I am
trying to name new files, It brings down a menu WITH ALL OF MY CORRECT
NAMES OF MY OLD FILES. WHEN I TRY TO CLICK on them it doesn't do anything

If you want to call me, I have no objection giving you my phone nbr... I live in the
KC area, and it might be easier if I could see both screens at the same time...but that
is totally up to you.

9. What version of the Mac OS are you in?

Go to the Apple symbol in the top left of the menu bar.

Pulldown to About this Mac.

I have a feeling you have an older version of Mail. If that's true I won't be much more help.

Looks like there are a couple of Apple Stores in the KC area. You might want to make an appointment for the Genius Bar. They won't charge you for what I think would be a pretty easy fix for someone in person.

At least you know that your filed mail is there. Just needs to be reorganized.

10. Thank you so very much for your help today. I have a MAC OS X

VERSION 10.6.8.
I am sure it is old...but I can see those files ...I don't see a few of the ones I want to see yet,
but I have been to the apple store.
Tell me about what year this is, if you know...it's probably time for me to buy a new one.
And do you have any you like? I don't like Windows 8 so won't buy one of those...
just wondering.

11. I'm using that version, I had it updated to that os last year.

along with adding more ram. Its 7 or 8 years old. The kid who did it said it would probably be ok for a couple more years. It sounds like your computer is newer than mine, they can probably just update the operating system for you if your hard drive is big enough.

That's what I like about apples, they might cost more but I can get many years out of one.

12. THank you, I think I will have it worked on....I DO NOT want Windows 8 9 or 10...didn't

much care for my Apple but I ONLY use it for mail ... google....and a little FB.
No one plays games on my computer...so its not full or threatened by strange teenager
viruses...lol
