Using Firefox for years, growing problems, switched back to Safari, which now works like a dream.

So I'm wondering what browser you all use on your Macs. I can't even remember why I switched to Firefox years ago.

What's been happening more and more on Firefox: certain pages are moving extremely slowly, then almost freezing, then crashing other pages, then freezing everything open. Spending a huge amount of time trying to get things to Force Quit.

This happens only on certain pages, like Audible, Daily Kos, and my local newspaper's site. DU runs fine, as do my usual local banking site, Amazon, NYT, etc. But if I spend any time on the problematical sites, eventually the problem spills over into everything else.

In frustration I dug out my old Safari, which I haven't used in years, and everything is just zipping along.

1. I have Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. All work, but Safari has become my go-to

2. I use Safari for most everything and have no complaints.

I have to use Firefox for a certain site I work on, but would never use it if that weren't the case.

5. use Safari al the time; I have Firefox because a certain site I used to

go to required it. Don't go there now, so Safari seems fine.

6. I've had few problems with Firefox, but

last week, when I was making hotel reservations for Tokyo, the website of the hotel I wanted to reserve wouldn't display some of its content in Firefox. I could look at the room options, but I couldn't actually select one.

I tried it in Safari (which I haven't updated) and there were no problems. Maybe I should switch back to Safari, since I originally dumped it because it wouldn't display certain websites properly.

7. Safari has better development tools, too

I usually test in FF but that's all it's used for. Really gets annoying that FF is ALWAYS telling me to update, then I hit the "update" button and it searches forever and never connects to the server. So I've pretty much given up on FF for that reason.

Air 10.8, MacBookPros 10.7, and 10.6 (that one needs a new HD before I upgrade it).

8. I use Safari all the time now.

I tried using Firefox several years ago for a while, but ended up returning to Safari which I prefer.

9. I've gotten in the habit of using Firefox because of its excellent privacy & security plugins

-- most of which are also available for Safari now, apparently. Every now and then I come across a site that just doesn't work right with Firefox (usually those designed and tested exclusively with IE), so for those I switch briefly to Safari, and then go back to Firefox. If I get more familiar with Safari's privacy & security capabilities, I may use it more often in the future.

I also like Opera, although it chokes on some sites.

I use Chrome very seldom, only for testing stuff I'm working on, because Google Is Evil.

It occurs to me, where else could you look for good advice about almost anything that would be better than a bunch of Mac-using DUers?!
