Need some guidance/advice re installing Visual Studio in Win 8.1 ...

I don't use MS's stuff much, but I vaguely remember being warned away from VS because there seemed to be some code in recent versions that could be switched on and would then function as a keylogger. This was from a few years back. Paranoid rumor, or fact-based ?

I also remember VS's compiler for Linux came with a bunch of intellectual property strings ?? Made people question whether MS could claim an interest, if not ownership, of products programmers created w/VS for Linux.

I've mostly worked on Macs and ***x but because of a couple of unfortunate coincidences I'm working mostly on Win8.1 right now, and I'm trying to figure out which is the latest version of VS that would be compatible w/Win8.1 but not have any undesired misfeatures such as the above. Opinions/suggestions/pointers ?

PS: Remember, I did use the key word "vaguely". I don't normally keep up w/MS except at a great remove.

You want Visual Studio 2019, as 2022 doesn't support 8.1 PoliticAverse Apr 2022 #1
Thanks. I hate the way MS requires you to open an 'account' to d/l free software ... nt eppur_se_muova Apr 2022 #2
