Hello wise ones. Question, why have my PDF's converted to Chrome icons?

I didn't do anything and just recently all my PDF's are no longer Adobe icons.
What's going on? Does anyone know? Can I do something to change my PDF's back to Adobe?
This is a Windows PC.

1. Somehow all of your PDF files

Are now associated to your Chrome browser.

You can Right click a PDF file and open it with Adobe.

check the option to always open with Adobe.

3. Probably want to tell people if this is android/apple/windows with a question like this ...

But simplest way is probably to uninstall/reinstall Acrobat (Reader). Normally when you install it asks if you want to associate extensions like PDF with the Acrobat program. If you say yes, it should fix it.

There's other ways but this one is pretty simple and reliable.

6. Try this:

Click on the Windows start button in the bottom left hand corner. Find the Search bar & type in "file type." It should bring up a window labeled something like

Apps --> Default apps --> Choose defaults by file types

Below, will be a very long list of file extensions. Scroll down to .PDF & select what app you want to use for that file type.

I just updated Windows & my settings for PDF files changed, so maybe that's what happened to you, too.

5. The extension .pdf default has been changed

In the Search bar, type Default apps
Scroll way down the page (below Reset) and click on 'Choose default apps by file type'

This list takes a while to come up, patience.

Then, use the scroll bar on the right to scroll all the way down until you see .pdf

You will probably see Chrome selected for .pdfs. You want to Select it, and then change it back to Acrobat.

Close settings, your icons should all look familiar once again.

10. You can 'read' .pdfs in Chrome and Edge

So that is good to know if you lose Acrobat. I prefer using Acrobat myself. Just good to know that you can open .pdfs in those browsers.
