Best remote desktop? Not VPN...

I want to mirror my computer at work. Someone there uses LogMeIn with success. It's $360/year. I googled and found less expensive ones but someone mentioned NOT making the server vulnerable to attacks.

Any recommendations?

TIA

It's free for personal use, -- I no longer need remote access but this is what I used when I did and it works great. Teamviewer

I think there is some configuring going on behind the scenes by my network team. They set me up with a myvpn login that tunnels to our Citrix server where I can select RDP (from a bunch of apps but RDP is pretty much the only thing I use this way) to my computer at work from anywhere outside of work that I can get on the internet. Works good even with just a 4g hot spot but I don't think I'd care to try it on 3g.

Please describe the tasks you're wanting to accomplish.

>> You mentioned "mirror" your computer at work. Are you trying to copy everything to a physical computer away from work?
>> You mentioned remote desktop and that it even works well over a 4G connection.

Stuff I need to know:
Is your office configured with a vpn that you can use to connect from a remote location to the internal LAN?
>> If the answer is yes, then get someone in an IT role to set you up with vpn access and use remote desktop after connecting via the vpn. A vpn is probably the best security for your LAN at work against outside intrusions. I don't know much about LogMeIN and any of its competitors.

I would caution against working around your IT department. If you have any NDAs or confidentiality agreements, a breach could leave you open to a lawsuit.
