Why the you-know-what would Microsoft give a rat's ass about Gmail?

Please advise if y'all know anything about this one.

But then, most reputable services don't ask you to.

How this one got through the spam filter baffles me, though.

As far as I know I don't have any "Microsoft accounts."

The juxtaposition between the two was a red flag.

6. If you did change your account name, then don't do anything. If you didn't,

then someone else is messing with your account. Microsoft then wants you to go to the link and reset your password. I've done it myself before. This is the reset your password page:

10. Its a Phishing scam ( looking for your password) - delete the email

if you google the phrase "Your Microsoft Account has been renamed" you will see its been going a while a few different forms

They are saying that you have a microsoft account, for which you use your gmail address. Your gmail address has been changed at microsoft.

Yeah, this is phishing, very clumsily done phishing.

ETA: Don't believe any "Microsoft" phone calls, either. You call them, they never call you.

I already deleted it, after alerting GMail's anti-phishing team.

What I'm trying to resist is the temptation to think there's any connection at all with me having just posted some anti-Septic Sphincter material on social media.

There are many red flags here.

1. Changing an account name without you requesting it.
2. Gmail email account, vs the email is purportedly from Microsoft.
3. The website is "account.live.com", why isn't it microsoft.com, or gmail.com?
4. A generic request from "The Microsoft team".
5. the Big One: Asking for your password, or any other personal information.
