Household Hints & Help

Not talking about our beloved MopTops. Just mops!
We have mainly hardwood floors, some laminate, and the rest of the flooring is tile in our house. We have been using Swiffer, but based on a suggestion from a DUer, I bought Odoban, which is a pet odor removal and sanitizer for any hard-surfaced floor. Swiffer is fine for small stuff, but given what's going on, I think we need to be more thorough with the cleaning.
Accordingly, I want to get a mop, but I'm not sure what kind to get. For example, is an ordinary string mop good enough for our needs? What about a sponge mop? What's the difference? I'm also a bit leery of putting dirty water over the clean water, so I want to get one of those mop and bucket deals with a wringer. Is that useful? Or is it just a waste of cash.
Help, please! Your recs are very welcome.

(1,050 posts)uses hot water from the tap and solution. It works great on all hard surfaces (I even use it on my hardwoods, as the squeegee/dry setting gets 99% of the water up).

(29,804 posts)They use them for restaurant bathrooms and always leave a brown ring on the base tiles. It grosses me out.
I found what looks like a big swifter head ( handle sold separately ) it has kinda finger fringe on it. After use you put the fringing part into the washer. Better than swifter on tile grout for sure.
My regular swiffer works better for me with an old wash cloth rather than swifter sheets.

(5,117 posts)Different brand, same idea. Amazon has a bunch of similar ones.
I spray cleaner from a bottle on the floor and then go over it with the mop. When the cloth gets dirty, I rinse it out in the sink and then reattach it to the mop to continue on. Mine attaches with a bit of velcro, so I can just toss the cloth on the floor and press the mop head on the cloth to attach it. It works great on hardwoods and you can toss the cloths in the washing machine.
ETA: This one looks more like the one I have. (My Dad bought it for me and I am not at home right now so cant look at what brand mine is.)
