Did Campbell's soup cans used to be bigger?

Reason I ask, I'm using a recipe from a 1979 cookbook. It calls
for 1 can of cream of mushroom soup.

Do I need to use more than one can?

I believe soup cans used to be bigger. I know there are other brands besides Campbell's but I think that's a pretty good yardstick to use.

I think by an ounce or so... I'd still go with the original quantities, though... hlthe2b Dec 2015 #2

Most of those recipes had so much in them, I'd doubt you'd notice a small decrease in one ingredient over another.
