At the root of political corruption is money, lots of money.

...To run for office requires lots of money. How can we get all that money out of the political game of getting elected? It simple, but too simple for Republican Idiots who are totally against this idea:
A. Public Funding of National Elections,
B. No Private Money in Senate, House, and Presidential Elections.
C. Limit the length of elections and time allowed for meetings, rallies, and marches
D. Limit what the money can be used for.
E.. Yes, somehow get the HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY OUT OF POLITCS.....

..................AND AMOUNTS ARE HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have received a number of letters asking for campaign contributions for Senate Elections that take place in 2022, and 2024. In the literature for these current senators, there is no mention at all as to when they are running for reelection. ... NONE, NADA, NOPE, NOTHING, ZERO, ETC.

..I have had to look these current Democratic Senators up to see when their next election will be. At least 5 are not running until 2022 or 2024. None of those 5 are running in 2020. Yes, I donate to Democrats and Democrats ONLY..but asking for money 3 to 5 years in advance of the elections, shows just how rotten the system really is. Repeat, none of the 5 is running in 2020. All five want to get a head start on their opponents who will be well funded and protected by the Trump Presidency and his very rich backers. ..On and on it goes, where it stops, nobody knows...
... I am under no illusions. Nothing will be done to solve this problem.
.....And I close with this question, "Who knows what evil lurks within the hearts of men?.........
.........Answer: The Shadow Knows....................end of rant..........................................

If you got this far, I thank you for reading this. My hats are off to you.

That's one way of looking at it. I'd say the root of political corruption is a quest for power. Nitram Oct 2019 #3

Slavery is the fiction that people are property.
Corporate personhood is the fiction that corporations are people.

All other non-living entities, like labor unions, non-incorporated businesses, churches, civics groups, & governments, only have the privileges that WE grant them. Since corporations aren't living beings, they don't need clean air, fresh water, healthy food, health care, child/elder care, or even an environment that supports them. Corporations can "live" forever & their money & power amplify their rights. These artificial entities are the entities that a good number of Congress serves, not We the People.

Lot's of good reading here: Reclaim Democracy's Corporate Personhood page

Another good page of theirs: Proposed Constitutional Amendments

i mean, i get that it's "because, money".

but what's the supposed theory behind letting a billionaire in los angeles spend a ton of money influencing an election in one of georgia's house districts, e.g.?

we recognize that letting someone outside the u.s. influence an election here is a huge no-on, but why doesn't that logic work at the state level? same logic, i think. the people of that district in georgia should be able to determine their own representative without being swamped by the opinions of people in far-away states and districts.

again, yeah. i know. it's allowed because, money.
