Australia vaccine-mandate protesters compare state govt to Nazis - media

MELBOURNE, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Several thousand people rallied in Melbourne against new vaccination mandates on Saturday, with a few comparing the state government to Nazis and calling for violence against politicians, local media said.

In Australia, where 83% of people aged 16 and above have been fully inoculated against the coronavirus, nationwide vaccinations are voluntary. But states and territories have mandated vaccinations for many occupations and barred the unvaccinated from activities such as dining out and concerts.

The Melbourne demonstration against the vaccination mandate that came into effect on Saturday - requiring construction workers in Victoria state to be fully inoculated - was peaceful, The Age newspaper said.

But a reporter posted video on Twitter of a protester carrying a mock gallows with three nooses hanging from it, and the newspaper showed a protester carrying a poster depicting Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews with a Hitler moustache and the hashtag #DictatorDan.

He sided with the microscopic anti-vaxxer demographic because, reasons... No, actually it's because they were threatening the life of a Labor state premier who's done an amazing job at dealing with the pandemic. Not happy with that hat-tip to the US zany Right, he swiftly started going on about voter suppression/fraud blah blah because, reasons... Seriously? Read the room, scotty from marketing! The vast majority of Australians actually have a life and want to be in and out of the voting booth and grab a sausage sandwich, then get on with their weekend. There's no time or interest in going around different polling booths, lining up and going 'd'uh, nope. I haven't voted anywhere else today!' I really strongly dislike the tendency of the Liberals to try to fit weird US stuff from a very unhealthy democratic system into our very healthy system. I just wish the Labor party had a really strong leader. I like Anthony Albanese but when it comes to charisma, he's not doing that great...
