John McCain, currently visiting Australia, has weighed in on climate change, citing the irreparable damage already done to the Great Barrier Reef, but aiming also at (p)resident Trump, in urging that the U.S. commit to the Paris agreement on climate change.
I'm sure he realises full well that if Trump decides not to abide by the agreement, the weakling Turnbulll will follow suit. The cimate change deniers in his party are eager to embrace any excuse to continue to encourage their mates who run the big mining companies here.
"The death of the Great Barrier Reef is one of the great tragedies of our lives, US senator John McCain has said, arguing America should uphold its commitment to the Paris climate agreement, or accede to it with minor modifications.
Speaking in Sydney on Tuesday night, the veteran politician and former Republican party presidential candidate said climate change was undeniably real and that it was incumbent upon world leaders to act now to halt and reverse global warming."

Thank you, Senator McCain - I wish there were more like you on the Republican side of US politics.

He's been around for a while, and I'm not sure how much influence he has these days, although he does seem to have quite a media presence on TV (on CNN anyway, which is the only American news service I watch).
