GERMANTOWN, Wis. — Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel said Friday he has "no plans" to attend a Sunday rally in Green Bay organized and headlined by a billionaire donor to his campaign, Elon Musk.
Musk, a White House senior adviser in the Trump administration, initially announced Thursday on social media that he would "personally hand over two checks for a million dollars each" to voters who participated in the Supreme Court election.
Musk deleted the post Friday and later clarified that the money would go to people who would serve as "spokesmen" for an online petition against "activist judges." WISN 12 News originally reported on the petition last week, which offered voters $100 just for signing. Thursday night, Musk announced a surprise $1 million payment to a Green Bay man named Scott Ainsworth for signing the petition.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul filed a lawsuit Friday seeking to block Musk from distributing million-dollar payments to voters.
