What you need to know to vote in Madison and Dane County in 2025

Yes, 2025 is an election year in Wisconsin. And as it turns out, voters will again face big decisions locally and statewide.

That starts soon with primary elections for state superintendent of public instruction, Madison City Council and other races. Primary Election Day is Feb. 18, but absentee voting begins as soon as municipal clerks have ballots available, and they must be mailed no later than Jan. 28 to voters who requested them by that date.

The Cap Times Voters Guide below will help you understand what's on the ballot, answer questions about voting and public policy and give you the information you need to make your voice heard in regional elections.

We'll start with some basics. Then scroll below for details about which specific races and issues are on Dane County ballots and follow the links to our stories about each one.
