National Democrats and Republicans both targeting resources on Wisconsin legislative races
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee the party's committee dedicated to winning seats in state legislatures this week announced 14 targeted seats, the bulk of which are in the state Assembly, in its efforts to gain advantages for Democrats in Madison for the first time in more than a decade.
"Wisconsin represents one of the most exciting opportunities to shift the balance of power in the states this election. For too long, Republicans have weaponized gerrymandered maps to lock themselves into power," DLCC president Heather Williams said in a statement. "This cycle, with new maps finally in place, there's a real opportunity for voters to fairly elect their leaders and carve a new future for the state."
Wisconsin Democrats recruited candidates to run in every state Senate seat on the ballot and all but two of the 99 Assembly races the partys largest recruitment effort in years. Meanwhile, Republicans will fight to maintain their long-held legislative majorities with help from investments by the Republican State Leadership Committee.
"We know that the Democrats intend to flood the battleground states with millions of dollars down the final stretch of the election, which is why the RSLCs early investments are so critical to winning in key battleground states," RSLC President Dee Duncan said in a statement. "By investing early and supporting strong Republican candidates, we are able to maximize our funds over the course of the cycle so we can secure decisive victories in November."
