Voter turnout in Madison hits record numbers for partisan primary election

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- More than 83,000 voters cast ballots in Madison for the August 2024 primary on Tuesday.

Voter turnout reached a record 45%, the highest for a fall primary election in 40 years, according to a news release from City Communications Manager Dylan Brogan.

Despite the high turnout, Brogan said the clerk's office kept wait times to a maximum of 15 minutes.

Thoreau Elementary on the city’s west side had the highest number of voters at 1,670. TPC Wisconsin on the north side and Blessed Sacrament on the west side had the highest turnout percentage at 70 percent.
