Emergency Covid funds from the federal government. They wanted to keep all the money and put forth two constitutional amendments that would make them the sole spenders of that cash.

They have a track record of not coming back into session when key issues arise that help people in emergent situations so they kinda cooked their own goose here. A mailing campaign to all voters saying this and tying the problem to “lawmakers in Madison” got even conservatives to notice what a bad plan this was.

"Wisconsin voters on Tuesday rejected Republican-authored ballot questions that would have limited the governor’s power to spend federal money that comes to the state for disaster relief or any other crisis, unless it’s already earmarked.

The constitutional amendments were placed on the ballot by the GOP-controlled Legislature."

I was surprised that some conservative neighbors mentioned that they were voting no also.

That Gov Evers holds the WI record for vetoes, which the Repugs are not happy about. The Gov does not have the power to veto a constitutional amendment though, which is why the Repugs tried to cement their power where he couldn't reach it.
