Wisconsin has launched a Missing Child Alert earlier this week to work alongside the AMBER alert system following the deaths of two children.

The new alert system, which was initially meant to be called the Purple Alert, has less strict criteria to than the AMBER alert, and since its introduction has yielded positive results, authorities say.

Its creation followed the murders of two Wisconsin children, 5-year-old Prince McCree in 2023, and 10-year-old Lily Peters in 2022.

To utilize the new alert, the child must be under 10 years old, or under 18 and believed to be incapable of returning home without assistance due to a physical or mental condition. The situation must also not meet the criteria for another alert such as an AMBER alert according to local ABC affiliate WBAY.

The Missing Child Alert, to be issued within 72 hours of a child's disappearance, must follow the child's information being entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and there must be enough information available to inform the public to aid in the search, as reported by WBAY.
